I think it's like 80% of all laptops are made by the one company in Taiwan. The brand is only going to dictate how many hours it will take to remove the bloatware that comes pre-installed.

I had a Gateway gaming laptop that worked really well for about 5-6 years. Itd still be going if we hadnt taken it apart to clean it then somehow broke it.

I've had an ASUS f554L laptop I use for basic work tasks and browsing the internet for almost 4 years and haven't had an issue with it.

It's a cheap entry level laptop but this ASUS has been extremely reliable for me.

If I were you I would spend some time reading reviews for laptops in the price range you're looking for. Most brands mentioned here make reliable products, with the exception of a few lemons, and you can sift through the less appealing models by doing some research and seeing which reviews stand out to you.

Apple... mine is about 5 years old now and is no slower today than the day I purchased it. I have never had a virus. I have never had an update fail to install properly like I did with so many laptops before it. It never runs hot. Granted, I only use it for web browsing, home office, and some light engineering math calculations.

Toshiba
FUCK NO.

Three of my last 4 laptops have been HPs. The first one lasted about 4-5 years before the monitor lighting stopped working. The second one lasted about 3-4 years before some section of the memory died which made everything run at about .001% the speed it should. Both of those had problems with getting BSoD's somewhat regularly later in their lives, though I don't know if it's them or MicroShit's crappy updates. My current laptop is an HP and it's woefully underpowered but it was the cheapest laptop Best Buy had at the time and I really don't have the money to get anything better.

As for Toshiba, I had a laptop that lasted about 2 months. The monitor cracked for no apparent reason and researching online found that this was a common issue in the model I had. Despite this they refused to honor their warranty, claiming I "must have dropped/damaged it" myself and that it's "impossible for the screen to be defective" (?!) so they got on my reasonably short shit list of companies I will never do business with again.

I've had an ASUS laptop for about two and a half years and it works beautifully.

Have an ASUS desktop too and it's swell.

ASUS is just great
