Sheik and Koloff say...something, probably, but the Funks beat them in a 6-man tag last week! They bicker a bit until JJ Dillon books them in the main event. The winning single wrestler will challenge Flair! (61, Sheik's Crazy Old Man gets 96) Speaking of whom, Flair and Steamboat are teamed up in a winning effort against Style and Substance. (77) Michaels is watching backstage and enjoying seeing his mentor Steamboat team up with another champ. Maybe he should get some gold of his own! He eyeballs the passing FoF, but they tell him not to think about it. (57)

Death and Taxes roll through Future Perfect in a solid match. (73) Powers is still cranky and feeling underused. I should probably just formally turn him heel. (53) Tully issues an open challenge, but this one is gonna be whoever happens to walk through a nearby door next! It's an unsuspecting Jack Brisco, who has a bad time. (79) Hogan and Tenryu have a pretty great match outta nowhere. Hogan goes over. (82) But backstage, Hansen is mauling La Parka as Elizabeth looks on in horror! Message SENT, Hogan. (60)

Ventura taunts Bruno, but he does get another shot! If Bruno can beat Lawler, he can get Ventura one on one, but if he loses, he's done with the NWA Title picture! (80) Bruno and Lawler have a back and forth match. Ref bumps and Lawler grabs a chair....but here comes Muraco with the Rac Bottom! He gives a little wave to Bruno and then runs interference against Ventura while Bruno gets the pin. (77, Muraco's Cocky Face gets 99)

Jones and Snuka provide an over the top dramatic update on Jones' recovery process. (63) #1 Contender (for the WWF Title): Funks vs. Sheik and Koloff! Heels are actually able to hang...and Bundy comes out! Referee Dan Davis can't keep track of everybody, with Terry and Bundy brawling on the outside and Sheik and Koloff doubleteaming Dory. Sheik pins Dory for the three when the dust clears. (81) Flair comes out to stare Sheik down while the new #1 Contender yells something that might be English. (92)

Overall: 83 SUCCESS

Pre-show: Jake (!) d. Razor (78)

We get a match that could have happened, as Flair and Koloff open the show in non-title action. Sheik distracts the ref, but the tactic backfires when Flair notices and sneaks in a low blow for the win! (83, good chem) Sheik screams at Flair for a bit, but Flair doesn't have much sympathy. (88) AKIO wants to get the band back together in some capacity, but Tenryu works alone now and also that is prohibited anyway. (44) Style and Substance go over the pairing of Tony Garea and Mike Rotundo (54, face team awful chem)

Afa Reigns beats up Jack Brisco just for something for them both to do. (37) Tully is here with another open challenge! After some silence, TOMMY RICH'S MUSIC HITS....but it's his younger cousin Johnny Rich who comes out. Aw mannn. (60) Johnny "Sparky" Rich gets in a bit of offense, but not really. (68) Rheingans trains with Powers so that maybe he'll have less reason to whine. (52) Jones and Snuka are at physical therapy. Jones cheats on his exercises while Snuka vows vengeance on the Faces of Fear. (73)

Terry Funk is here to fight a jobber, but this is a particularly beefy and wild one. (Spoilers: it's Vader without the mask or the overness...yet) Leon White puts up an impressive fight for a jobber, but jobs all the same. (75, White's Man Beast gets 100) Hansen interrupts a Future Perfect promo to tell them he's sick of all these goody two-shoes all-American types like them and Flair and half the WWF in general. (62)

Death and Taxes challenged Steamboat and Michaels last week, and now we get that match! The heels seem to have underestimated the IC Champ and his protege, but manage to get the win via a handful of tights. That kinda thing won't fly at Back to Basics! Just don't ask how the refs are going to suddenly be competent. (80) PARKAMANIA are backstage. Parka is a bit banged up after running afoul of Hansen, but he'll be okay. (69) Our main event is Ventura and Lawler against Sammartino and Muraco. Heels get a bit of revenge for Muraco's meddling last night! (78)

Jake Roberts is back! He appreciates the fan's support during his vaguely explained absence, and is back to raise some heck...trust him. (60) No open challenge angle, but Tully puts on a solid match with Michaels just the same. Tully goes over. (76) Future Perfect try to sell the crowd on Back to Basics, explaining that there are going to be two refs and heightened fines and penalties for rules infractions. (40) Razor Ramon goes over Butch Reed. (52)

Paul Jones is ALMOST READY to come back and wrestle! Snuka and Jones celebrate. (69) Random IC Title match! Hiro Saito puts up a good effort, but Steamboat retains. (59) Bundy is out to explain his attack on Terry Funk last week. Bundy thinks he's been overlooked, and he should've been in that #1 Contender match! Funk didn't win it anyway. Funk comes out and challenges Bundy to put up or shut up at Back to Basics! (70)

Random Tag Title match! Faces of Fear go over Tenryu and Leon White, albeit not without a decent brawl first. (62) Hansen doesn't appreciate how WWF has treated him and his friends. All Japan might be in the past, but his friends are still getting bullied by the establishment, and Parkamania are the most recent offenders. That's why he took out Parka last week. PARKAMANIA come out, and Hogan points out that he's Parka's friend just like Hansen is Baba and Tsuruta's. Parkamania is gonna run wild on Hansen! (80)

Bruno and Muraco put away Style and Substance, (62) but afterwards Ventura and Lawler run in on them! (80) Sheik says Flair can't cheat or run away at Back to Basics, because Sheik has an elephant in the hole! Out comes OLIVER HUMPERDINK, who babbles no more coherently than his new client. Humperdink and Sheik talk about burning down the WWF and breaking the system and overthrowing the rules, which seems decidedly off-theme for the rules-focused PPV. (63, Anarchist gimmick gets 75) Flair and Blackwell are up against Death and Taxes in the main event. Maybe there's something to these accusations of Flair being sneaky, because he tricks Williams into getting counted out chasing him. (83) Flair doesn't deny he's a bit slick, but he's smart, and that's gonna play to his favor when he beats Sheik and whoever that other guy is can't stop him! (100)

Overall: 84 SUCCESS

Jake Roberts has violated the wellness policy a third time. Good thing it's a four-strike system because it's the 80s!

Pre-show: Razor d. Zenk (48, Old School Face gets 96)

Flair has a non-title match with Koloff to kick us off, but first he wants to straighten out some things, so he calls Koloff and Sheik out to the ring. Flair might be a bit...tricky....but he is perfectly capable of a clean fight when he chooses! That's why this will be a SUBMISSION MATCH! (77) Despite the vaguely unsettling presence of Oliver Humperdink, Flair submits Koloff completely clean. (80) Snuka and Jones are here to celebrate LIVE AND IN PERSON because Jones is BACK! They're as obnoxious as possible about it for a few minutes until Faces of Fear come out to shut 'em up. The fans don't care about those two brats, the fans care about the TAG TEAM CHAMPS! (64)

Steamboat and Michaels are back in tag action, defeating Baba and Tsuruta. (66) Death and Taxes are watching backstage, having had a runin or two with Steamboat of late. DiBiase seems to have a plan, because Williams asks permission to go after Steamboat. It is granted, and DiBiase heads to the ring. (59) DiBiase is out to expose a FRAUD. Jake wasn't REALLY out for "family reasons." DiBiase greased a few palms, loosened a few tongues, and found out a few things. Before he can tell us, Jake is out. DiBiase needs to mind his business, or things will get painful for him. Trust him. (60)

Ventura and Lawler prevail over Future Perfect. (70) Terry Funk calls out Bundy. Bundy's a scary dude, but Funk has spent his whole life around scary dudes, and he will be happy to settle this in the ring like men. (82) PARKAMANIA battle the temporary reunion of Hansen and Tenryu. Parka is the weak link, and succumbs to the LARIATOOOO~ for what I believe is the team's first loss. (82) Muraco knows whose candy butt needs a whoopin' next! (95)

Time for another Tully OPEN CHALLENGE. BRUNO answers the call this time! Good thing, because it's the main event slot! (83) Solid match here, which ends after Ventura gets involved, costing Bruno the match. (82) Ventura and Tully kick Bruno around a bit until BRAD RHEINGANS comes out to run them off. (84)

Overall: 85 SUCCESS

Bruno and Ventura yammer at each other to kick us off. (71) Jake puts away Tenryu in a solid opener. (76) Leon White and Brad Rheingans get into a shoving match backstage. (42) There's a #1 Contender match for the IC Title! Steve Williams upsets Jerry Blackwell with a handful of tights, and will be going after Steamboat! (71)

Snuka is out by himself to bemoan Faces of Fear's interruption of Jones' return celebration. He might be hurt even worse now! Faces of Fear come out....but Jones sneaks up behind them and whacks them with his crutch! The heels are able to get a leg up and a bit of a beatdown. (58) Bundy wrestles Dory Funk, but biffs him with a chair to send a message to Terry! That's a DQ. (70) The chairing continues until Terry makes the save. (60)

Tully and DiBiase are out. They have a strange bedfellows match tonight, and are gonna show Steamboat and La Parka some pain! (86) And indeed they do, although the face team doesn't go down without a fight by any means. (83) Elizabeth and Hogan are watching backstage. Elizabeth wants Hansen taken down for his attacks on Parka. Since Back to Basics is 1v1, Hogan vows to get some vengeance for them. (66)

Muraco calls out Lawler! Lawler's been running his mouth lately, and his dance card is empty for Back to Basics! That makes him a prime candidate to check into the Smackdown Hotel! Lawler says Muraco is the one writing checks with his mouth that his body can't cash, and will be glad to take him down a peg! (86) Your main event is Hansen tossing around Atlas for a while. Enjoy that. (76) Flair is going over his game plan for Back to Basics when he's jumped by Sheik and Koloff! (62)

I always looked at the first post as being a way to introduce the series to new readers, so I don't think adding spoilers would really accomplish much. You could mention the trolls, the new kids, or the exiles, but what's the point?

The only thing I could think of adding would be useful links, like to Hussie's formspring or tumblr, the sound credits page, or the music website.

Pre-show: Baba/Tsuruta d. Harts (51)

Steamboat is in the ring. He's absolutely up for defending against Williams at Back To Basics! That's Death and Taxes' cue to come out and double team him, but Jake is out to make the save. (63) Style and Substance think it's lame that they're not booked for Back to Basics, and they wanna make an example out of some singles guys! (52) And in fact they do, with a win over Reed and Atlas. (66)

Dave Taylor wants to know if the Faces of Fear wish to join his tea party. They do not. (47) Jerry Blackwell and Leon White have a quick brawl, with the more established Blackwell going over. (65; Somehow Blackwell improved at Flying skills by fighting Vader) Snuka and Jones talk about how brave Jones is for fighting through injury at Back to Basics. Dillon interrupts to inform them that the tests are back...and in fact, Jones is not exactly medically cleared to wrestle yet. Snuka and Jones will have to wait! (71) Future Perfect take down Afa and an increasingly eccentric Fuji. (56; Fuji's Comedy Foreigner gets 82)

Ramon and Michaels banter back and forth (43) leading into a match where Razor ekes out a win. (62) Tully Blanchard is back at it again with another open challenge! This time the challenger is Brad Rheingans! Tully tells him to hold on though, because a match of that caliber should be saved for Back to Basics! (81) The Funks take on Tenryu and Bundy. The heels are tough guys, but lack the Funks' team cohesion, and that's the deciding factor. (66)

Bruno is ready for Ventura this Friday(?). It's an even playing field. No teams, no gauntlets, no funny business, and the best man going home with the belt. (71) 10-man tag action in the main event! Flair, Bruno, Muraco, and PARKAMANIA engage Sheik, Koloff, Ventura, Lawler, and Hansen in a pretty silly brouhaha. It's a chaotic affair, and Ventura is best able to capitalize on the chaos and sneak away with a win. (81) Flair is unperturbed though. WOOOOO. (92)

Overall: 81 SUCCESS
