The same way as if they were tied to gameplay, the insidious and predatory nature to them. Creating a system of haves and have nots designed to lure in those with weak self control and children.

And as I've said before cosmetic microtransactions often DO affect gameplay as your progression system is hobbled to push them.

Then there's outright greed driven tactics like with Bungie and Activision reducing XP gain in Destiny 2 to try and encourage players to just buy lootboxes instead of playing for them and getting one for leveling up

Now you can cry "isolated incident" til you're blue in the fucking face, but it just shows that even as "just cosmetic" publishers are going to try every single dirty and underhanded tactic to get ALL your money because they don't want some money that's not their goal by having predatory microtransactions in full priced games they want ALL your money and nothing else is near enough to please the insatiable avarice these people have and under no circumstances should we ever just shrug our shoulders and resign that they're "just cosmetic" because that's just letting publishers have their way and as we've seen over the years that's never good for consumers ever

Literally any other company gates off content and they get raked over hot coals, Nintendo locks them behind a physical paywall of their glorified happy meal toys and they get praise for it. Every single time.

I'll repeat, it's not in any way comparable to devs that take huge sections of an already complete game and lock them behind paygates. It's dishonest of you to act as if that's equivalent to the little Amiibo bonuses.

Any dev who takes previously available content and gates it off behind a paywall no matter how miniscule it may seem deserves shit for it end of story. I know you think they deserve a free pass because they're Nintendo but that shit doesn't fly.

Splatoon 1 was a good example of how BS this was, my roommate is a Nintendo fan and wanted the costumes that required their happy meal toys unlock but with Nintendo's hard on for artificial scarcity (which I'm sure you'll deny they do like any good fanboy) it was like 80 bucks from scalpers because

You're part of this problem with your shit and hollow justifications of microtransactions in full priced games that equate to literally some of the dumbest and most naive things that I have ever read in my 12 and half years on CE.

How many times did I have to break down to you that publishers intentionally make experiences in games with microtransactions grindy and unrewarding to goad you into spending real money only for you to say " Lol they'd never do that"?

And not even 2 weeks later did it become revealed it would take 40 hours of grinding to unlock Vader in Battlefront 2 and if you have the glaring audacity to try and handwave this by saying something incredibly naive and ignorant like this is just an isolated incident nobody else would ever do this

Then you see why I become abrasive, it's willfully ignorant and childish thinking like this that does nothing but enrage me. To see the evidence right in front of your fucking face only for you to deny deny deny literally only cements my point that you are a sheltered and coddled child whose never once had to stand on their on two feet without any help
