There are pictures going around right now of an Asian girl dressed up as the Asian character from Last Jedi at the premiere, hugging the actress, and its really pretty sweet.

That and all the little girls dressed up as Rey... I know it can go too far sometimes, but representation DOES matter to these young fans. Its internalized.

-yet, these pictures of young fans dressing up as characters of their race/gender and feeling included are touching
-therefore, different genders and races being represented in blockbusters is overall a good thing

It's not that, it's that they disagree.

This whole idea of "You can ONLY identify with people just like yourself!" is a pretty divisive idealogy that SJWs like.

What's wrong with little Asian girls liking Luke Skywalker?

Or Native American girls liking Lando?

NO! the SJW says, that's wrong.

I kinda disagree, I think it's damaging. I mean when I was growing up one of my childhood heroes was He-Man and the thought of "Well he's white and you're not!" never even crossed my mind.

Hell the Biker Mice From Mars were MICE and people still got attached to them, no one had to be a mouse to identify with them.

Tomb Raider's fanbase is like 78% male, they identify just fine with Lara Croft (3 different incarnations of her) without having a crisis over gentials.

That's the oppoistion people have to SJW's TC that you handwave, what you're actually enjoying is soft segregation and what you're actually opposing is real equality and inclusiveness.

Sure can.

Diversity is fine and a good idea.

However the idea of "You people need someone just like you people to represent you people or else you can't get attached" is bad and harmful. That's not diversity, that's the opposite of diversity, that's demanding people only respond to their 'group'.

The problem is more when SJWs treat the characters in someone's work like some sort of public good that must be fairly distributed among races/genders. It's not simply that they like seeing female protagonists, it's that they think it's wrong or unfair if someone chooses not to include (enough) female characters that are to their liking in a particular work.

Leia yes, but those movies are old as hell and the younger generation doesn't identify with them as much. Amidala wasn't much of a heroine.

Besides, Rey wields a lightsaber so that puts her in a separate class.

Alright, apologies if I lumped you in.

My point here is that while there are females in Star Wars, iconic action hero females have NOT been present. Asian characters have NOT really been present. People drum this up as shoehorning in diversity, but little kids in particular notice when someone looks like them.

Hopefully grown-ass adults arent as preoccupied, but the reality is little kids especially notice when a girl can be a Jedi, when an Asian girl saves the day, when a black guy is one of the leads (though tbh Finn has some funny black sidekick cliche to him), etc.

This is where people disagree with you.

"Kids only notice a character if they share color and gentials" is an SJW belief and one that has no evidence for it.

People don't oppose diversity, they oppose your insulting insistence that "You people need you people to keep you people in line"

Thats the point you continue to ignore and will just insult anyone who brings it up

The SJW representation complaints bug me sometimes.

Like I remember those claims when the first trailer for Ep 7 came out and we saw the Protag was a woman and Finn was Black. We had no details on their story or characters yet people cried pandering.

Like I'd understand if Finn had a scene where he's harassed in a hoodie, took a knee to protest the empire, or he had a shoe horned "hands up don't shoot scene" but his race had literally no impact on his character, so does it matter if he's Black or not?

Because if it's still pandering that he's Black, then what race SHOULD he have been then for things to not be pandering? White?

End of the day, to make a movie you have to pander to some sort of audience for tickets to be bought. What race should they have made Finn or what gender should Rey be for it to no longer be "Pandering"?

(Note: I wouldn't say Rey being Mary Sue isn't necesarily a feminist thing. That's more of a writing problem. It's not like she said something like how much better woman are at the force than men. Is having a Gary Stu inherently misogynist or is it also bad writing?)

And your defense of that is nothing but strawmans, insults and deflections.

And then you pretend to wonder why people oppose SJWs.

There is nothing different to a girl liking Rey as opposed to a little girl liking Lando.
