Girl next to me has an MBA and is doing the same job and I don't have an MBA. If we extrapolate this out as fact, it's not worth it.

Only if you dont have an idea. An MBA without another background, an idea, or an investor is a waste.

It's worth it if you plan on entering a job into a role that requires one, but if you're already in, you can get promoted and do the same job.

From a good school, yes. If you have a plan with what you're going to do with it other than getting an MBA just because everyone has one, then yes. Otherwise, no.

Depends really. Do you already have relevant work experience and want to progress/change your career? Than an mba might be worth it. It's highly recommended though that you get into a top program though. The true value of an mba doesn't lie in its education, but the network the school provides, especially when it comes to get an interview with employers.

I work for a marketing technology company (real estate)

Before I was working for a fortune 500, but screw corporate America. Too rigid.

An MBA teaches you how to communicate and think in a different way

I wouldn't consider an MBA if it was unnecessary to advance in my career. I don't believe in getting degrees for the sake of degrees. It must have a purpose.

I'd say that if you just want your foot in the door, get a bachelors. Then when you get hired, just go kick ass and be the best at your position. That will get you promoted quickly.

I already have a BA

I probably wouldn't have got my current job without an MBA and this job does have a straight line to increasing my pay ~50% in a couple years...so maybe it was worth it. The problem is I can't say for certain if I absolutely needed the MBA to get this job.

I work in finance. In this industry you really need a top tier MBA for it to be worth it. Otherwise don't bother.

This is also a great point. Don't expect Goldman to pick you up just because you have an MBA.

Mine isn't from a prestigious school and I knew that going in. It really helps if you want to get into a business development role, or a sales role because again, about 70% of what you'll learn is proper communication. Or if you like marketing (my concentration), you learn a good bit about psychology.

You also analyze a TON of case studies and write about them.

In the corporate world, it's easy to see from an email who has a degree and who doesn't...not that anything like that matters to me. But as you move up the chain, you need to articulate your ideas and thoughts when giving solutions to complicated challenges.
