Current Events > Did you grow out of Pokemon?

As a kid, I thought I'd grow out of Pokemon eventually, especially since my peers in Middle School started talking about how the series was for children.

When Pokemon X/Y released, I felt like I was finally losing interest in Pokemon.

However, I never did for some reason. What about you, Current Events?

Though on that note, I don't like the modern games as much as everything Gen 5 and below.

I didnt really "grow out of it", but I dont like the newer pokemon games all that much. I still play the older games(mostly the GBA games) from time to time but everything post B/W just cant hold my interest for very long.

Silver was my last main series game. I was slightly older than the target audience though. I still have a fondness for pokemon related things and have tried some of the pick up and play spin offs.

I wouldn't so much say I've outgrown it though. It's more like I just don't have the desire to learn all of the new stuff in every iteration.

Bakugan was where it was at.

They actually had cool toys and not stuffed animals on a card.

Not as a result of getting older, cuz everything up to BW2 is golden, imo. On a second play through, I ended up really liking XY as well. Sun was good, but I wasnt really captured by its magic. ORAS was the most disgustingly phoned-in remake ever, made me angry after I was done, seeing as how I loved Emerald. I have no skills or knowledge of how to accomplish this, but now I want to make an enhanced version of Emerald similar to Fire Red Omega, or Crystal Enhanced

No I got tired of the grind and all the stupid ass convoluted shit they make you do

I stopped after Gen 2. I'll still play Crystal every now and again, but I'm not interested in any newer Pokemon games.

I don't blame you. After my initial playthrough of Pokemon Sun I never managed to do another full playthrough of it. I always lost interest halfway through. Now that Ultra Sun is out, I doubt I'll ever finish another run of Sun/Moon again.

No, not really. I don't find myself re-playing the newer games as much as I used to, but I'm still very much into Pokemon. I still get hyped for, buy, and play through every main-series release, plus I still play Pokemon Go and some of the other spin-off titles like Pokemon Mystery Dungeon.

Interest dipped dramatically around gen 3, gen 4 didn't help much, almost skipped gen 5 but happened to find Black on clearance and greatly enjoyed it with newly invigorated interest in Pokemon... until X killed it again. Which is to say it doesn't have much to do with "maturing" as much as the quality of the games themselves. Unless maturity means getting tired of the same shit over and over.

Wouldn't say that I've outgrown it, but I haven't had as much enthusiasm for the series for the last couple gens. I didn't bother to beat the Hoenn remakes, considered dropping Moon because the first half's so boring, and I don't plan on getting US/UM.

The anime, trading cards, etc., yes, but never the games.

Lost interest in new Pokmon games at gen 4; I was in high school at the time.

I played Heart Gold and Alpha Sapphire, but I have zero interest in playing anything else.

It wasn't really a maturity thing either; I just stopped caring.

No, but after what I felt was a lackluster Gen 7, I feel like I probably will grow out of Pokemon within the next few years. It just doesn't seem like they have any good ideas left, and I really think the franchise needs to make some major changes if it wants stay interesting.

But when they introduced Fairy-Type, I stopped playing those gens. Fairy-Type is such a dumb idea for me.

Dragon was getting to Gen 1 Psychic levels of broken. It needed the counter.

Basically after Steel/Dark were introduced in Gen 2, Fairy was introduced in Gen 6. Dragon type was getting a bit crazy, so Fairy type is super effective against it. Dragon moves also can't hit fairies.

However, in Gen 7, Fairy type went a bit too far, and now it's the prevalent type. Poison and Steel are super effective against it, but, well, they still suck offensively so nobody uses them.

Some older Pokemon, such as Clefairy, Togepi and Snubbull, had their Normal type changed to Fairy, while some, such as Marill and Ralts, became dual types with Fairy being their new second type. As someone already said, adding the Fairy-type was basically a balance patch to nerf Dragon/Dark/Fighting and (indirectly) buff Poison/Steel. The Fairy type itself is really good, but some of the Pokemon who have that typing don't really have the stats to make full use of it though.

Didn't "grow out" of it, but I lost interest gen 6 with the addition of Mega Pokemon, the shift to 3D & a couple other changes.

I actually thought the addition of Fairy-type was a good thing, but there were just too many other issues for me.
