The problem is the damn curved screen makes it harder to put a screen protector on it. My S5 worked fine with the protector. It's a pointless feature with no benefits and big drawbacks.

I'm pretty jaded about a lot of tech recently. I think smartphones and similar tech hit a point where truly functional innovations stopped and now it's just mostly pointless features. Some of them have uses but the way they market them is aggravating. For example, waterproofing is a nice feature to have, but they show people using them in swimming pools and shit. Can people really not handle being away from their phones for a couple hours? Or voice activation, that's a nice safety feature if somebody is texting you when you're driving, but I don't get what the point is of having a conversation-recording device in your home so that you can dictate grocery lists.

I don't really get what the curved screen thing is even supposed to add though. Is it just a marketing gimmick to show they have something other phones don't have?

A lot of software continues to be innovative. At this point phone makers just need to keep making the hardware better

I obviously hope the vikes go all the way, but even if they lose tomorrow, I'm gonna be just fine. That Diggs play was just that cool.

Another thing i've been interested in lately, is how cities are when they host the super bowl. Without looking up your guys's's cities, has that happened in recent memory? And if so, what was it like? Mpls is a big town, but it's supposed to get really crazy, which will be interesting to see. I have a hard time believing it will be bigger than any given football game, which isn't that big of a deal. The MLB all star game was here a few years ago, and I wasn't downtown for that, but it was apparently not that huge.

I've read local articles speculating how the Minneapolis economy will be affected if the vikings make the super bowl. Apparently hotel revenue will go down, but the vast majority of super bowl tickets are sold across the nation well before the super bowl, so who knows.

I also read about hardcore vikings fans who will sell their boats/cabins to buy super bowl tickets (nosebleeds are $5,200 + now apparently). Just for fun, I did a quick search on stubhub (which isn't an accurate representation of the market) for lower level 50 yard line seats on the Vikings side, and those are 25k+.

Another thing...A friend took an uber lately, and the driver said he hopes that the Vikings don't make the super bowl (which is fine) so he can make more money from out of towners. I'm no economist, but you'd think it would be kind of a wash. Locals from the cake-eater burbs would still want to get home and back, and visitors would want to go to the airport. If you're going to the super bowl, you probably don't need to take the bus or the train

Last paragraph. I think I made the right choice by not Airbnb'ing my place. I live a mile away from the stadium, but it's against my lease, and I just learned I would also to have to get a permit from the city, which out make it almost impossible to pull of doing.

1. I'm less cynical about the Jaguars. Their team reminds me a lot of the 2007 Giants, in the sense that they make a game hard for a quarterback. Calais Campbell seems like he was built to make Tom Brady cringe.

2. I find technology is becoming more and more wasteful. The life cycle of tech these days is ridiculous, and it's something we need to change.

We had the NBA ASG like a decade ago but I don't remember it much. I heard people could drive downtown and see celebrities and fancy cars, but I'm not sure how much it strained traffic or helped the economy.

I didn't think about this but it's totally true. You're basically meant to replace your smartphone every couple of years, which is pretty asinine, especially as they aren't growing nearly as fast in terms of useful new features compared to ten years ago.

Also, with computing there's a bigger push to laptops, but I'm not sure how that impacts things. I haven't owned one in a while but they always seemed to have much shorter shelf lives than desktops in my experience. However, they use less power and have less to dispose of, so I don't know what ends up being more wasteful in the end.

I mean actually I do think about waste pretty often, but not so much technical waste. Fortunately, since tech is expensive, I think people are pretty reluctant to throw it out often. You're not even supposed to throw most electronics out, but I'm sure a lot of people do, and I imagine stuff that goes to Goodwill or a recycling program probably has to get thrown out eventually.

Toronto has had smaller sporting events lately (Pan-Am Games, NBA All-Star Game), but I doubt something as big as the Super Bowl would make too much of a dent in the city. Shit would get busy, but if you're outside of the downtown area, you would hardly notice. The expressways here are already backed up a ridiculous amount, too.

I live close and walk to work downtown so I think I'm in a unique position to observe. Last Thursday they started setting up a zipline over the frozen Mississippi which seems cool but kinda terrifying. And the blocks around the stadium have been shutdown with construction of tents and all kinda shit.

Anyway, one more observation i would like to make:

Foles has had some good wins and got Philly where they are now, but Wentz is the main reason they are here. Foles and his team continued that.

Case Keenum has pretty much started it. I think I can finally say that regardless of what happens, Case will sign a 3-ish year contract and be our guy. He's earned it. Which is insane considering how many Minnesotans thought Teddy was better than Tom Brady.

The last big thing we had was the world series and I don't recall it being that crazy even with traveling Red Sox fans. We had the MLB all star game in 09 I think and it didn't really make a dent but that's many magnitudes smaller than the super bowl. Honestly the world's fair back in like 1908 or whatever was probably the only comparable event in St. Louis history back when we were among the hottest cities in the country

In East St. Louis they still do

Context: East St. Louis is basically a slum that is technically part of Illinois that has a lot of violent crime and a lot of strip clubs

Further context: I have never been to a strip club because I don't think I'd like it and yes I have been invited just not since I was a freshman

alright so here goes. Most recent (of 2) strip club experiences

it was the summer of 2015. My friends from up north came down to the twin cities and we had a great time for 2 days doing putt putt and all kinds of stuff throughout the weekend and around the twin cities. Then that saturday night we went to downtown minneapolis. We went to a few bars and it started to get expensive. Everyone else had had enough, but Daniel wanted to go to Dream Girls, and I wasn't tired yet so I went with him, and I live close by. You had to pay a $10 cover charge and they gave you a bottle of water, which was acutally pretty nice because I was done for the night.

Anyway, we sat in the stands watching the girls do their pole dances, and then a girl asked daniel if he wanted to pay for a private dance. He obliged. A few minutes later, a stripper asked if I was in. I paid $20 for a lap dance. Yes I did get the lap dance, I'll admit it, going forward in life, I should strive for other things.

Here's where the story kicks in.... at the end of the lap dance, she said "for $800, we can take this all the way."
I said nope.
"She said I know you have a credit card and can pay for it (I do have a credit card but I'll be gosh darned if I pay that much for a ...you know what). I said no again and sat on the bench closest to the front door.

I sat there for another 20 minutes, thinking, where the heck is daniel? I'd like to go home pretty soon...before I realized...holy fuck...daniel is fucking a stripper.
30 minutes later, he came out and yes he paid $1000 on a credit card to raw dawg a stripper. I lectured him on how stupid he is, but I also texted the whole wedding party about it, so it's kind of the stuff of legend now. He says he didn't get an STD but who knows

another thing I wonder...I was offered $800 and he was offered $1,000....
did they offer me a discount because I'm cuter, or because I look poor and not able to pay as much

The Super Bowl in Santa Clara two years ago caused a lot of problems in San Francisco. Since Santa Clara is a boring city with nothing but tech companies, the city of San Francisco let the NFL renovate the city and take over some streets for a weeklong NFL festival, so plenty of people's commute got way worse in a city that's already too congested. Then they wanted to take down the streetcar overhead wires because they're ugly even though the city is known for the streetcars, and it would make travel far worse for everyone. Luckily, SF told the NFL to fuck off on that request. They weren't paying the city that much to hold its residents hostage.

And I agree that the lifespan for technology is ridiculous. I use the same phone for years and my friends think it's weird that I don't get the new phones every year like they do. Why is that even a thing?

So this is kinda random but ESPN had a thing saying "Which backup QB will lead his team to the NFC title?" and I was wondering if Keenum still qualifies as a backup now. Everybody is healthy and he's still starting. You wouldn't call Kaepernick a backup the year the 49ers went to the Super Bowl, would you?
