which I will admit is not the nicest thing ever, but I forgot how strict CE enforces these rules when it is with a user they do not like

I'm honestly struggling to reconcile this with the simple fact that there are a handful of very well known problem posters who do nothing but be assholes with every single post they make on every single account they post with, but just coast along no problem.

I mean green butter is a bit spicy sometimes but generally a good and well liked dude on here. I would have thought that moderating would allow a certain degree of sense when applied to making the community a better place and not simply about following the letter of the law to an arbitrary degree.

This seems like 3kl territory to me. But what do I know.

I've been warned and purged for calling someone an idiot. I did have pretty bad mod histories both times, but considering what I had been modded for prior, it still feels like an overreaction. Having outstanding moderations doesn't feel like it should result in going after the tiniest of infractions. It becomes a little confusing when it's done like that.

I would still like some insight into the moderation process at least, because while I do agree the comment I made was not the nicest thing, it's not directed at anyone and come on, it's about an expensive cell phone, and I am not the first person to make jokes about Sheeple or whatever on CE. you know this.

meanwhile we have topics on here making jokes about and more or less bullying people for their legal issues and personal lives (look at the 5+ pages on the XSquadder and FT topics).

i understand these are two mutually exclusive issues but I guess I do not understand the moderation philosophy here. is there no thought process (oh he has X history and made a post that contained these 3 trigger words! suspension!) or is there some kind of vision you have for maintaining discourse on this site?

Hate to defend hoth but most of what (that account at least) says is actually a lot tamer than GB's. I mean, the first thing GB does after returning from back to back several month purgatory is to immediately start doing the same shit. Even Franklin can give a break from being an abrasive jerk after coming back. And it's not like all of GB's accounts are killed on sight either, since his romulax account has been fine even though he trolls a good bit on it too.
Though, the moderation team has been quite slow lately. It's probably because of the holidays.
