Ill write a short little write up on my thoughts and assign a score. No more than 3 albums per post, please be sure to list the album title and artist.

Basically, my scores go
1-3, I hated it
4-5, I didnt care much for it, although there may be some good parts
6-7, I liked it, even if I see some flaws
8-10, I loved it

My scores are entirely based in how much I enjoyed it, has nothing to do with the level of talent, influence, etc. my tastes are obviously biased and flawed and I will be the first to admit that, but Im just being honest

I really love the blending of sounds in this record. Its this noisy mess thats all over the place, while still maintaining my interest with all sorts of angular ideas. Im more of a Deceit fan myself, and find this album to have some slightly overwhelming moments in comparison, but I cant deny the entertainment value I get from the dark atmosphere

8/10
A mood album. Portions of it match the sheer breahtaking soul of Talk Talks best work and the pure intimacy of the arrangements make it a soothing listen. The problem is there isnt really a huge standout moment and it takes a while to grow on you, but as a full listen on a Sunday morning, its hard to do better.

9/10
Hums best work. Im a sucker for a good riff, and this album is full of those. In a way, it feels like the logical conclusion of 90s rock to me, a mature melding of shoegaze, grunge, and all sorts of good stuff. Its just so hard for me not to love songs that are this immediate and likeable.

Some genuinely fun, off the wall, GREAT moments here. But theyre just moments, and a lot of it just seems a bit over my head. Theres a lot going on here, and Id more likely give it a 7 or even an 8, if the length was trimmed slightly. This is an exhausting record with a lot to take in, but the good stuff here is addictive, definitely an album I think about quite often and Im very glad it exists.

Doesnt do much for me. The deadpan singing style disconnects me from the admittedly pretty catchy melodies. Some good ideas here but I often just find myself kinda tired, I cant even remember much of this

I can get more in depth if you like, thats just the basics. Within each of those 4 is different ranges of what I have said. An 8 is an album I love, but a 10 is an even deeper love and connection to that album

Ive really never cared much for Ben Gibbard, something about his whole image and the way he sings just really rubs me the wrong way. He just feels so sterile and robotic in his sadness, which often becomes very overbearing to me. Theres nothing outright offensive about this, but I definitely get a mild annoyance from it.

Im really really picky with my hip hop. But Biggie is easily one of my favorite MCs, even if I dont always care for the songs themselves. He just beams with personality, everything that comes out of him seems genuine, whether its on a fun club track like Big Poppa or an aggressive attack like Gimme the Loot. An obvious classic of the genre, but its definitely more rap than what holds my interest in one sitting, and it can even be kinda annoying in the wrong mood.

About 5 tracks here stick with me. Theres a solid album somewhere in here, the band has a terrific sound, like a surreal lo-fi mish mash of The Beach Boys and Pink Floyd, but its just too inconsistent and overlong.

7/10
A really really cool atmosphere. Soft and relaxing, but also surprisingly dissonant and haunting in spots. I wouldve liked a bit more...progression maybe, it often falls into the background when Im listening to it, but it definitely does its job.

This album makes me so anxious. So much tension is built up and released over the course of it, its quite the journey. BtS have a great sound, but Id argue this is the only record where they had the especially passionate spark, that sells the emotional moments and makes each and every song worth their length.

6/10
Pretty typical indie emo sound, good songs. Its catchy and feels good to sing along to, but I feel like it stretches itself a little thin, I dont get anything particularly great out of it and it doesnt change itself up much.

A really comfortable album. A nice and lazy guitar and vocal combo that does its job. Incredibly consistent too, the reason I didnt rate it higher is because nothing really stands out as great. Maybe its too subtle for me to truly love? I like it, but I might be missing something. Another listen might do the trick.

Theres great songwriting in here, but the music itself doesnt really make me feel much, its that 70s pop/rock type production that always feels a little foggy to me. I see the appeal, and this is great at what it does, but its a little dry for me.

I normally have a hard time connecting with the straightedge punk bands, but Fugazi is an easy exception. This is an album that needs to be played LOUD, its full of great rhythms and energy, but doesnt feel dumb like even some of the best punk can. Not every song quite reaches the highlights, but theres definitely not a moment I dislike here.

I really dont like Green Day, but I remember actively being annoyed by this in a way their earlier work didnt do. Theres just way too much going on here, theres story lines, theres suites, characters, etc. and normally when an album does this kinda thing I normally understand at least the basic points. Here it just kinda incoherently comes and goes. I dont know, I just really really didnt like this.

3/10
Theres a decent melody or two somewhere in here, but the songs just annoy me. I really have a hard time with Armstrongs voice, I cant explain it but this just feels so watered down compared to the punk I really like.

Really pleasing sound. Its so lush and theatrical. Nothing here is anything I can personally identify with much, beyond the longing of Kayleigh, which ironically is where they deviate most from their prog sound. A really pleasant album through and through though, Im a big fan of that slick 80s production
