I wouldn't still make that bet after seeing how much you liked it, Leon, but I also think it's something Jeff Zero would like based on comments he's made about some other stuff. (As for you, I thought you would like it, but I felt there was somewhat of a chance of it landing in the "good but not great" category.)

I think reading the manga before the movie helped me enjoy the movie more because I was able to fill in the gaps and I had the benefit of knowing what was going to happen already. Like, there are some moments that are much more powerful when you understand the full implications of what they mean. I made some connections watching the movie that I missed when I was reading the manga.

Kyou liked him first, Ryou knew she liked him, and she let her sister fall on her sword for her own gain when she knew her Kyou would never do that to her. But I've learned "selfishness" isn't really one of your turnoffs so whatever...!

The way I see it, if A and B both like C, A only gets precedence if they have some intention of following through. Otherwise it becomes B sacrificing their own feelings for nothing. Besides, I found the whole situation between Kyou/Ryou to be oddly sweet. Ryou depended on her sister a lot so of course she goes to her for something like this. It also says a lot about Kyou being a good person that she was willing to set her own feelings aside and help her sister. Then, once Tomoya definitively chose Kyou, Ryou backed off with a lot more grace than I was expecting. It all worked out in the end!

The point of what Roba was saying was that Kyou liked Tomoya but was never going to act on her feelings anyway, so why should Ryou hold back? It's totally different from the Tsuki ga Kirei example, which was just Chinatsu being a really horrible person and not suffering from it for some reason.

I think it's important to consider the lesson Tomoya learned at the end of that route, which was that there was no clean way out. Once Ryou and Kyou both liked the same guy, someone was going to get hurt. If Ryou had done nothing, as Kyou planned to, then both of them were going to get hurt, forever wondering what-if. I respect Ryou for at least taking the chance. Yeah, it was kind of crummy to enlist Kyou's help, but Kyou went along with it willingly, which I take more as an affirmation of their bond as sisters than as something to hold against Ryou. Still, I can see how someone would disagree with that interpretation!

I'll take that as a compliment! I don't even hate Ryou! I think she's fine outside of her own route, and she even has her moments inside her route, but she did her sister wrong and I have no sympathy for the fact that she "lost."

A part of me wonders if Ryou didn't intentionally drag Kyou into the picture to give Tomoya the option, effectively helping her sister in her own meek way. Ryou made some pretty impassioned arguments for Tomoya to pick her near the end there, though, so this is probably just me reading too much into it.

Yeah, I don't think Ryou wanted to give Kyou an equal shot. She just knows Kyou has an inside route to get closer to Tomoya since they're already friends, and she's more naturally outgoing so she can break the ice for them.

All right, I finished up with Episode Gladio! It was short and it was mostly a series of battles, but I enjoyed it! The boss fights were fun, particularly the last battle with Gilgamesh. We even got a nice remix of Clash on the Big Bridge, although it wasn't as intense as the original. It almost sounded like something you'd hear in Nier, but I liked it! Gladio was pretty fun to play as, too, and it was friggin' awesome that you could literally uproot columns from the ground and bludgeon monsters to death with it.

It was also neat getting a bit of backstory on Cor, although it's kinda weird that the game gives you the option to flat out tell him you're not interested every time he tries to talk about it. Turns out he didn't beat Gilgamesh, after all, although he did chop off his arm and left a lasting impression on him due to surviving because of sheer force of will when everyone else had died, hence the nickname "The Immortal."

I wish Gladio had gotten a bit more stuff. He's mostly still the same guy afterward as he was when it began. It was mostly an attempt to prove himself worthy of being Noct's Shield and face his self-doubt, which he successfully does. Gilgamesh tells him that being able to admit your fears and doubts instead of stubbornly deny them in pride is what makes him worthy because he has the courage to overcome them rather than try to bury them.

There's a Score Attack mode and a couple of other things, too, but I'm not sure if I'll do those. There's also a special episode that lets you see another side of Chapter 13, and you have to play as Gladio there, too, so I might do that one next before I tackle Episode Prompto.

Story was just basically filler or something that only seemed to happen for DLC. Not as fun as just playing as Noctis either.

Well, Noctis is a lot of fun to play as to begin with, so he's hard to top. I still thought playing as Gladio was good, too. Yeah, the story was really minimalist, but that's the way FFXV usually likes to play things, for better or worse. Gladio's kind of a flat character anyway.

In Tsukigakirei, Kotaro and Akane's relationship hits a few rough patches, starting with the news that she'll probably be moving. We moved right before sixth grade and again before eighth grade, so that was probably one of the contributing factors to why I disliked middle school. It's no fun having to start over from scratch. I liked the same girl for both sixth and seventh grade, although we never went out. She knew I liked her though, and looking back on it, she was immensely patient and kind for putting up with middle school me. We're even friends on Facebook now, which makes her literally the only person I have any sort of contact with from 6th-7th grade. Maybe I missed my chance.

Then Kotaro gets jealous when he sees Hira confessing to Akane, even though she shoots him down. He gets into a bit of a funk and mopes as she tries to figure out what's wrong. It never worked that way for me with girls I like. Usually if I got into a bad mood, they just let me be in a bad mood, although sometimes I actually wanted just to be in a bad mood and didn't actually want to be cheered up, so whatever. I can be kind of fickle and nonsensical at times like that.

Eventually Kotaro and Akane manage to work things out in the end, so the moral of the story is: If a girl is willing to chase you down and try to figure out what's wrong with you so she can make things better, she's probably a keeper. Not that I would know.

Xenoblade 2 - I was playing as some of my other party members so I could more easily achieve their affinity node conditions for their story Blades (Translation for non-Xenoblade 2 players: Each Blade has a tree of sorts with nodes that give you bonuses to your skills or passives or whatever and they have conditions to unlock them like "Use this skill X times" or "Defeat this unique monster" etc.)

yo when i was playing as tora the team was op

Specifically when I was playing as Tora with Poppi QT Pi. I was using the unique monster I used for legendary core grinding because it is an HP sponge so I can drag battles out to do some of the more complex conditions, but man it was a series of annihilations.

should have used him for my core grinding sessions geez

You might want to rethink this if you want to unlock the 600 Blade Combo Finishers node without specifically grinding it out. It helps spread them out if you bring Tora along while doing quests.

When I saw that node I actually was thinking to myself "augh this is gonna be a pain depending on how it's calculated. Is it just Tora or does it apply to anyone? It should just be Tora, right? Ugh. Well, let's see what the counter is when I get to that node and reassess."

on one hand i have some trouble believing that tora alone had 600 blade combo finishers

on the other hand it can not be overstated how much messing around i did at all stages in the game so maybe he did from literally chapter 4 or something >_>

I'm actually not sure exactly what counts. I assumed it had the by done by that particular Blade. It might be possible that any Blade Combo Finisher done by Tora counts.

It can't possibly be that particular Blade only. I haven't had that Blade for very long! Just before the Core Grind session! And I think when I was playing as Tora there was the only time they were fielded! I can't have used 600 Blade Specials on that Blade, let alone Finishers.

I just tested it. It counts all Blade Combo Finishers. Even ones performed when Tora is not in the party. So I was wrong and you don't need Tora in the party to complete that node.

Oh. Okay, then yeah, I love using them so I'm not surprised I met the requirements for that beforehand. I wonder if it's the same for Pyra's 4000 Blade Switch node. I had a similar kind of reaction when that auto-unlocked although I found it a lot more plausible that Rex had built up 4000 Blade Switches over the course of the game so far. Still, it was a big number!

Good job! Those last few minutes start to get pretty hectic if you know youre getting close. The first one I did we finished with like 15 seconds left.

Yeah, I could tell when we were almost done, and even though 10 minutes is a long time in there, it feels like you're cutting it close, so you start to rush. It probably took us a good 5-10 minutes to get our bearings about us and get an idea of what we were doing, too. Since we were in the beginner's room, we got three hints, too, so that helped a lot.

I've slowly been working my way through a Frasier re-watch and I just finished up season 2. Not really saying much about it because I've already seen it before, but man, this is a great show. All the major characters are excellent except Roz (who still has her moments). This show's sense of dramatic irony and hypocritical humor is unparalleled.

Gankutsuou suddenly turns into Oedipus Rex, and then it turns into Umineko Episode 3, and next into Umineko Episode 6, and finally into the ending of MGS1. I had forgotten just how much of a scumbag Cavalcanti/Benedetto really is, and they somehow made him even worse here. This reminds me of a great song from Umineko Episode 6 that would feel right at home in this show!
