I want to forget this existed, it's the literal worst Gundam I've ever seen and I've seen those shitty CGI IGLOO Gundam OVAs. Literally nothing happened in 26 episodes. Tomino jerking off to his shitty formula of "argument by protagonists > pointless bad guy mecha of the week > bad guys retreat > nonsensical monologues by protagonists > episode ends".

the early 2010s have been dark times for Sunrise mecha but fuck that shit Unicorn makes up for everything

There have been some pretty shitty Sunrise mecha the last several years. Those Geass movies nobody cared about, Valvrave, Sacred Seven and Buddy Complex to name a few

I almost added the shitty Muv-Luv anime to the list, but realized it wasnt Sunrise. I dont think there have been too many great mecha of the 2010s. Cross Ange was fun stuff and would probably be my first pick off the top of my head

Cross Ange was a nightmare. I actually realized earlier yesterday after Killing Bites got brought up that, no, there definitely was a worse first episode than that.

Well I've watched the 2 episodes of Franxx that are out

It's fine, I do like 002 and Ichigo. The way they pilot is a little offputting but they kind of make it work with them being the faces of the mech and all of that.

I'd say my main issue with FranXX is that the setting and conflict both seem generic and they've put no effort into fleshing either out thus far. I'm hoping they start focusing on that soon and less "it's like sex, get it?" over and over.

Sunrise is still great, Build Fighters and those Origin eps were great.

Iron blooded orphans I liked a lot more than AGE, but it was a different kind of Gundam show.

Ripoff and homage are very different things. Several scenes have been DIRECTLY lifted from Evangelion on purpose.

Eh still seems too generic to be called an homage, if it had its own identity maybe.

Having scenes directed lifted makes it even worse actually depending on if the show gets good or not. But again, so far I think it's FINE and I like a few of the characters already.

The idea of Trigger "ripping off" Evangelion is just all kinds of wrong. Not trying to be mean about it, but considering it's Trigger that just doesn't work. There's a good chance that several people recreating those Eva shots actually worked on them to begin with.

Based on 9 episodes Id say Kanna, Fafnir and Elma are the best Dragon Maid characters. I dunno if Id call anybody bad, but Lucoa and Shouta arent very great most of the time

I hated Lucoa to be honest. Fafnir, Kobayashi, and Tohru were pretty good imo though.

By the way I can make the new topic when I get home. That won't be for a couple hours though, so someone else can make it if they feel like it and this one fills up in the meantime.

Lucoa was used in moderation to the extent that I enjoyed her screentime throughout the series, mostly.

I'm enjoying A Place Further Than the Universe a lot, but is it weird that the primary emotion I'm feeling while watching it is regret? Kimari's whole deal is that she wants to do something rather than wasting her youth, and watching this is kind of making me realize I never did anything special when I was young. Ah well, I guess it making me feel like this is just a sign that it's an effective piece of fiction. If only I could've seen it fifteen years ago!

...though checking on MAL, she's the third most favorited? And man, Riko has hardly any favorites? WTF? I think she might've been my personal favorite. Her or Kanna. The cast was great overall though. Elma's the only one I thought was meh I think.

If watching something makes me feel bad, that'll generally make me like it less, even if it only makes me feel that way because of how well-made it is. (sadness is not included in this, since I like feeling sad)

Riko has sadly been kinda boring. The episode where Kanna goes to her house was her best showing because the other times were almost entirely her repeating her swoon face without saying or doing anything else. I like Tohru and Kobayashi too, but I dunno why I dont like them more. Just cant really place what theyre lacking for me to care more. Maybe once they inevitably open up more theyll move up. Right now it looks like this

6-?. Whatever extras

Riko's definitely more repetitive than I would like, yeah. Probably enough for me to like Kanna more.
