My god, that ending. The last few chapters. Super sad that the anime didn't adapt all that, since while the last episode was my favorite part of the anime, this was even better than that. Just amazing. Exactly what I was hoping for when I first heard about the series. Even some awesome character development for Yuuri! Perfection.

Might get to finish Dragon Maid tonight if I dont fall asleep too early. If not Ill just finish it tomorrow. I remember somebody saying it balanced comedy and sol well in the awards topic, but so far it has been way more sol than funny. Also seems like maybe it could turn a bit more dramatic or emotional since Im sure all this other world stuff will be focused on more soon eventually

So when do we expect Heaven's Field to drop? Would have gladly paid to see it, but I wasn't given the option.

From the looks of it, the author made a spin-off manga with the three girls, and they're splicing content from that into the show.

It usually seems to take a long time? I mean they could just as easily announce the Blu-ray for Summer as they could for Fall. I feel like those things usually take like 7-9 months to come out and sometimes thats not counting the sub time either.

I think most of the recent Fate/releases have come with English subs in Japan, and 8 months would be June.

Ok I'm still picking my way through The Irregular at Magic High School, and I don't think I could have created anything lamer than the villains of this second arc if I'd tried. At least the fight with the Suzaku lookalike and Tatsuya almost(?) literally resurrecting himself from the dead (because you see his powers weren't close enough to godlike already) were pretty cool..

Yeah the good guys are much more interesting. There's a good number of LN series with pretty weak villains, for whatever reason. SAO and Accel World, for example. Not a coincidence that the best SAO arc is the one that doesn't have a villain... Index is probably a little better, though most of the best villains it has become good eventually. The city mayor guy is by far the lamest and is the closest the city has to a big bad, sadly.

Also (sort of spoilers, I dunno how to phrase this) I completely understand the Evangelion comparisons now, it's not directly alike obviously but I see it. And Evangelion did it better imo but I mean that's still high praise.

JoJo Part 4: Diamond is Unbreakable
Absolutely outstanding stuff. Part 3 had this weird episodic nature despite the vital time limit looming over the heroes and it made the pacing feel fucking terrible. Part 4 takes all the good parts about the episodic nature and removes Part 3's faults. The pacing feels incredible, and the real kicker is how damn perfect each episode felt. It's very difficult to create an episodic show with no down moments. Even the best shows will have a weak part every 10 or so episodes, even if the quality goes back to normal afterward. This didn't happen in JoJo. No episode felt wasted, each coming together to create their own unique storylines and battle concepts. It was 39 24-minute episodes and they didn't waste any time they were given. Not to the mention brilliant direction on all fronts. Coloration was constantly varied, something the series has always done well. It makes each scene feel truly unique and impactful. The voicework is nothing short of phenomenal. We don't get anything on the level of Part 3's Joseph, but every character does a fantastic job at relaying the over-the-top tone this series is known for. Animation is gorgeous, providing some of the most exciting action scenes I've seen. Really, it'd be quicker to point to the things Part 4 did wrong. Because I wouldn't be pointing at anything. This is what every battle shounen should strive to be like. Well, this or HxH.

Unlimited Blade Works
Honestly, I think I just have a ufotable problem. I hate the character art for one, but there's also the writing. It just feels like constant exposition until a fight kicks in. I don't think they do a good job of blending the action with the story. This hits in, like, every ufotable production I've seen and it really bothers me. ow well.

Devilman: Crybaby
Early frontrunner for anime of the year (Oh hey, I used that seriously). Devilman mixes a philosophical tale about human nature and the horrors mere humans are capable of creating with some of the most inventive visual techniques I've ever seen. It's made me quite interested in checking out the director's other works, but I'm stuck on shitty Internet, so I've just gotta deal with what I have on my PC at the moment. I've gushed a lot about the show already, so I'll just use this write-up to say I take back what I said about the ending, and the realization that I was wrong gave me a completely new outlook on the series that simply made me love it more. Let's just say Roba basically nailed what I believe they were going for, and silly me, I was looking at the show as having a pretty shallow, albeit powerful message: Humans are the real demons. Of course, with how many of the final events played out, this just seemed contradictory towards the end. In actuality, that's just a pretty small segment of the overarching message the story is trying to relay. The fact that this was based on a story written in the early 70s is crazy. It was so far ahead of it's time, showing the true capabilities of the medium. Glad I watched this, and glad I made a fool out of myself in the topic.

Rakugo S2
This was great stuff until that plot twist, holy shit I hate josei authors. I liked how it transitioned from a man's rise to fame in season one to his struggles later in his career, and eventually how he has to deal with the end of his life. Thought I was gonna have more positive stuff to say, but wow, that ending took me out of this. I basically never let a bad ending affect my overall perception of a story (School Rumble is still my #3 manga), but damn.

Incidentally for Jojo, the part 3 and 4 manga are pretty much identical in length. I definitely believe SC would've been a substantially better show if they chopped out 9 episodes to make it the same length as DIU.

Yea I see that I'll probably be in the minority on my mixed feelings on Devilman, but I certainly understand why it would be loved as I quite liked the ending.

Jojo part 4 is phenomenal, Yoshikage Kira is one of my favorite antagonists from like, anything pretty much.

Vento Aureo I like even more than Diamond is Unbreakable, which is the third best to me, though that's not a common opinion. It's easily the one that I think will be the one to benefit from being animated the most, if they pull it off. Of course Steel Ball Run takes the #1 slot for both regardless, because it's just insurmountable.

I like Stone Ocean but it's certainly going to be the stepchild of the series once the anime starts.

I enjoy it a lot but I understand the people going WTF. To call it blatant with it's sexual references would be an understatement, there isn't a minute without innuendo. The characters have been intentionally kept in an environment where it all flies over there heads (no idea what kissing even means), though, so it makes for quite the dialogue.

Still probably hovering around 4th for the season for me, excluding Devilman.

FranXX hasn't really gripped me. It's kinda trashy and kinda dramatic so far. Those can end up being great though, just too early to tell imo.
