As most people here know, I factor production values and presentation into my tastes in anime a whooooole lot, with rare exception. That said....I gotta wonder what I would think of Violet Evergarden if if didn't look as incredible as it does. The second episode didn't actually do a ton for me.

Yeah, I'm not sure how I feel about Violet Evergarden after two episodes. I like the idea of an emotionless girl learning to feel but without knowing why she can't feel emotions in the first place I'm finding it hard to care. Things were simpler when I thought she was actually a robot, now I'm just hoping I learn more about Violet soon.

After the Rain and How to Keep a Mummy both had solid second episodes, though (that mummy is so damn cute). I enjoyed the second episode of Maerchen Maedchen too! It seems like it's going to be a fun show about stories and creativity, I can get behind that.

I dunno, they've hinted it's something more than just PTSD. In the Ep2 flashback, the dude was so nonchalant about finding her and adamant that she was an unfeeling weapon and nothing more. Was Violet just a former child soldier that they captured or is it something more? I'm no expert but do real world child soldiers and PTSD sufferers don't lose all concept of emotion like Violet has?

also I decided to bite the bullet and FINALLY start watching case closed, a series I've been interested in forever. normally I would read the manga for something this long but I honestly don't even know the last time I started a manga series because I never have time for it anymore.

anyway three episodes in, I'm enjoying it. I'll probably take it slow though since my impression is it's almost entirely episodic.

It's.....something. I like it but it REALLY throws you for some shit, especially that 5th episode. I can't say it's that cohesive right now? It started to get a bit more and then it was like lolnope. But I guess a big part of the charm is how all over the place it is, which I can appreciate.

I'll probably do a full write-up/review of it once I'm finished with Rakugo. I much prefer writing about multiple shows in quicker write-ups than droning about single shows at a time.

Aha. Well, the comparisons are more thematic than anything, so you can rest easy in knowing that you haven't actually been spoiled. Eva is...a very difficult series to spoil, for the most part.

About to wrap up Devilman Crybaby.

There's a lot of good, interesting project and I liked a lot of the changes made on the whole.

There are some changes I don't agree with, but at the same time, I wouldn't want a carbon copy of previous adaptations. Everyone has to do their own thing for it to be a proper adaptation.

I would like to see netflix go on to fund Devilman Lady and Violence Jack after this to push the story further.

Always thought Netflix trying to create their own anime content could lead to something like this. The security that funding provided gave us a good experimental project.

I'm sure they won't all be hits, but I'm interested to see how many other good shows can be produced under this current approach to anime content.

AICO and B certainly don't seem to have the stylistic flair of Devilman, which is no surprise what with Devilman being produced by Yuuasa's own studio, but they are clearly having a lot of work put into them and using a lot of the best talents from Bones and Production I.G. respectively.

They also drop one week apart on 3/2 and 3/9, which will be...fun.
