A man's day went from bad to worse when he was issued a summons for jaywalking after being hit by a car in Hackensack Tuesday evening, according to police.

Daniel Gallagher, 57, was hit by a pickup truck on South River Street near Broadway around 6:15 p.m., according to police. Gallagher was not in a crosswalk when he was hit.

He was taken to Hackensack University Medical Center, police stated. His condition and last address were not known, according to police.

Gallagher was issued the summons for jaywalking and the driver, a New Milford man, was not charged with any offense, nor was he injured, police stated.

The Hackensack Fire Department and ambulance corps responded with police.

I guess this is technically fair, but you'd think the cops would have figured he was punished enough and let the fine slide.

Lol at the thought of New Jersey cops acting sane.

They'll ruin your life for a little weed while across the water in NY, it's a $100 ticket.

Just so you know you were jay walking and I could ticket you if I want to. I think you learned your lesson though. Be more careful in the future.

Happens all the time. Partially because it helps document that the person that got injured or killed was breaking the law in the event that they or their family try to hold someone else liable
