The flu shot takes weeks to begin "working." It's why sensible people get it late in the year instead of waiting till the middle of winter. If you got a flu shot tomorrow, the outbreak would be over before it protected you at all.

Course, there could be another outbreak in Feb so it's still worth getting it, but it's not gonna help right now if you waited.

I've had one hell of a flu for the past week. I had to take time off work Wednesday and Thursday, which I've never done before. It's regressed to a really shitty cough right now.

10% = saving 1500 lives per person interacted with - or something.

Theyre estimating that its around 30% effective, which is only slightly lower than average actually.

They wont know for sure until May or so when the flu season actually ends.

My wife's best friend is an infectious disease pharmacist for the CDC working out of boston and she said 10% therefore I am assuming she's right.

Apparently it crossed the country almost overnight as well. Most years it takes time to get from one side of the country to the other, but it probably has to do with the quality of this year's flu shot.

This, but the efficacy of this year's batch is lower than previous years because they apparently chose the wrong strain. Ironically, I think the only people I know who got the flu this year had the shot.
