All hair products need to be locked up.

I dated a Walmart manager(who was black).

She told me the 3 most commonly stolen items in Walmart are:

Black hair care products
Laundry detergent
Baby formula

So is it racist? In a sense, yes. Is it also sometimes necessary? Yes.

It's not every Walmart that does it either. Only the ones in predominantly black neighborhoods, which is another level of sad cringe.

At any store that has one. Even target. Small items easily stashed in bags and coats.

As someone with kids, I can understand baby formula being commonly stolen. That shit is expensive. No wonder they have cameras right over your should in that aisle.

If it gets stolen most often then yeah, lock it up. That's how the system works at these places. It's all determined by a spreadsheet.

But if reasonably possible, they should lock up the others too.

But it's retail so I can understand if they don't give a shit.

I work at a Walmart that is a Extreme Theft store. Every single item in the electronics department over $20 is either locked up or has a spiderwrap. Every Bluray is in a clamshell as well as every DVD over $10 with a digital code.

Don't blame Walmart for being "racist." Blame the thieves who make it harder for everyday customers.

It isn't an "if" scenario - it's literally only locked up to prevent theft, because the rates of theft on black hair care products is insane.

Like, actually think about it logically - do you really think a company that penny-pinches to the degree of Walmart would invest the time, money, effort, and manpower to lock that shit up and have a keyholder get it every time someone wants to buy it JUST to fuck with black people? And NOT because they legitimately believe (rightfully so) that it would increase their profit margin by enabling them to control theft on these products?

It's like absolutely nobody on the internet has any fucking idea what it's like to do anything requiring more business savvy than flip a god-damned burger - companies don't do "racist" things unless they're willing to lose a shit-ton of money, or just be a niche business. The largest brick-and-mortar retailer in the fucking world isn't going to invest millions of dollars into loss-prevention measures because racism.
