Light was so self-righteous, short-sighted and followed some kind of mediocre/cattle's definition of what "good" and "bad" are. That pissed me off through the entire manga, but mostly in the last half.

Lights biggest mistake was trying to kill a cop in episode 2 just cause most of law enforcement was after him.

He is so full of shit, his only kill bad people bs changes in seconds when the police start looking for him.

Sorry but the kid was fucking stupid to even think it would work out when they had a broadcast dedicated to him and looking for him.

Have not watched past episode 2 cause I find Light to the biggest hypocrite in the world with his ego, and thinking he knows best.

One thing that bothered me is how we are supposed to believe that he would be a "good person" without his memories of the Death Note, according to that arc where he is amnesiac and works with L...
My impression of him, right from the start, was of a person completely moved by his own interests, and who acted like he cared about other people just to get more benefits and make a good impression. In other words, right from chapter one, Light looked like a high-functioning sociopath to me.
Never understood why, without the Death Note memories, he suddenly turned into a humble angel.

Thing is, dictators are technically not criminals. They're not breaking their countries' laws, since they're the ones who make those laws.

And Light had an ego problem. He enjoyed making the established leaders of the world tremble at his feet. He didn't kill the heads of the Japanese government when they were after him, he instead scared them into backing off. Likewise, he forced the American president to act as his pawn under the fear of death.

Light's real biggest mistake was killing Raye Penber. He could've gotten away with what he was doing at any point before that, since Penber was going to clear his name. But he killed the guy and the other agents purely out of spite for the police, and narrowed the field way down. That led to him meeting Naomi Misora by chance and further implicating himself. As soon as L figured out that Kira = Light specifically, it was beyond over for him.

Power corrupts. The idea was that Light was "pure" before he found the death note and because of that he was corrupted as much as he was. Not realistic and stupid yeah but that is the explanation as I understand it.

Have you even seen how Light acted in just the first episode of the anime ?! That is not some pure, kind good person in any size, shape or form.

Hell just two episodes in I do not believe he was ever a good person, he has an ego, thinks he is better then most people to the point of wanting to make a paradise where he would be a god.

No, Light was a fucking asshole from the start, the deathnote only allowed him to act on his desire to kill and then pretend like he was killing evil for noble reasons until he got pissed the cops were on his ass.

A good person would never harm the cops, they would actively avoid them and keep killing evil people without getting an ego nor would they think I am a god.

He made no mistakes. The show is just stupid and had L pull bullshit theories out of his ass.

there is literally 0% chance if this was going on irl that anyone would ever be able to arrest someone over these deaths.

now if the setting was a fantasy supernatural world where supernatural/paranormal things were known of then yes he may have been caught but it is set in real life where this shit isn't common knowledge then there is no way to 'deduce' it was a magic book

Yeah if the show is suppose to be set in mainly reality not a scifi, fantasy, or world where supernatural events happen there is no way Light would ever be caught.

Light is also a fucking idiot though as he killed way to many people in just 2 episodes which is why interpol was onto him.

Had he spread it out, killed in multiple places, or was actual smart not just book smart the story could be way more interesting.

Light is not a character you root for in anyway, he is the kind you hope someone catches or kills sooner or later.

For what? Assholes would still exist, finding other anonymous ways to be assholes (even if they had to control the media to avoid having information about them leaked). We could have a world where people would constantly lie about their names. Light wasn't eternal; he would die, eventually, and I doubt he would find a suitable successor. There are a lot of holes in his ideas, actually, and it is weird that so few of them were explored in the story.

Lelouch from Code Geass was a much, much better character than Light. They are both manipulative, but Lelouch:

- Recognizes he is being a manipulative bastard; doesn't see himself as morally superior, and acknowledges that some passions and goals are beyond "good" and "evil"
- Is ready to sacrifice himself for his goal, and isn't pathetically afraid of death like Light is ("the only ones who should shoot are the ones who are prepared for being shot themselves")
- Has meaningful relationships with people, including his sister; despite being an asshole, he is humane and cares about some few people, whereas Light is a robot with no genuine relationships
- Has a realistic goal which isn't "getting rid of evil in the world"

I could make many more points, but if Death Note wanted to create an amazing "anti-villain" or badass handsome hero, it failed miserably

Serious question:

Does the anime of Death Note improve past the first two episodes, more of the same, or it only gets worse ?

Not sure if I should watch episode 3 and 4 or just quit the show now.

His biggest mistake was deciding to change his killing habits the moment he found out that the police suspected that Kira was a student due to the time that the murders were being carried out. When he did that, L immediately realized he must've had inside information which exponentially narrowed down his search.

Him killing Lind L. Taylor narrowed the investigation down from a global scale, but all it really did was say that Kira was somewhere in one of the biggest metropolitan areas on the planet. Had he gone about his killings in the exact same fashion he was doing it, L never would've been able to narrow it down further.

Light was a bratty dumb reprehensible clown and fortunately I don't think the audience was meant to really like him, though of course some people didn't get that memo.

Light's biggest mistake was whenever it was he got his head stuck so far up his own ass.

I definitely agree with what someone said earlier that Lelouch was way better. Although I mean, Light is fine, as a villain so if that was the intent then fair enough. But as some kind of anti-hero or whatever, dude's trash.
