i know companies save a lot of money by having their workers just stay home instead of having physical offices though. i have worked for a few that saved a ton on office space by taking this approach on a larger scale.

i guess it would make less sense if it's just a one off.

The problem for me is that I have to build their house to work exactly like they would be in our office which is a different animal. It doesn't help that they're using a residential connection to try to do everything.

what if he produces more value to the company than you will for your entire miserable life, and providing this perk to the employee is the only way they can continue to keep him with them, rather than a competitor who will beat peons like you with a whip in order to make sure the employees who have value have their demands met

i'll be sending your supervisor the beating suggestion. you seem uppity.

It's actually cheaper for the company to let people work from home instead of having to worry about providing a space for them to work.

I just explained it. We have to buy a Cisco Meraki router and set it up to work like it's connected to our domain here at work. Those things ain't cheap. And this dude called me to tell me how to set up his printer he bought from Wal-Mart and he dunno which plugs go where. I mean, we wouldn't have this headache if you just work in the office.

Large companies have a huge internal IT department both within the country and foreign who will do customized infinstrature work that does every day maintenance and that's not counting they probably contract with IT resellers and service providers to do the crazy work. It's definitely a hassel for them too all just for the sake of convenience.

depending on what you do, it is more convenient to work from home. like a few of my clients work from home, since they mostly travel, so all their work stuff is home, instead of an office.. or if you have a "traveling office" like repairing atm's or the money machines at walmart, its easier to do your stuff at home, than an actual office.

Yeah this guy ain't no market salesman and he ain't going to places that needs remote access and he aint making pitches for company growth. I dunno why they give this idiot this kind of power. Like my sig says, though if you don't like it then don't use it. Taking my talents elsewhere for sure.

Seems that they're doing because it must be convenient for them. You see that it causes headaches from your position. The people running these companies are looking at aspects you probably aren't aware of.

Another problem with my company. They are so bad at communicating with my department. They want to do this and have all this infrastructure but there's no reason behind it or they won't tell us and they just want it done, but when shit goes wrong it lands back on us to fix it. If I knew what they were planning my input would greatly help things out instead of waiting for shit to break and then let me storm shit to fix.
