Acid over 4 is laughable, and I like Acid

Notable that he more or less trashes 4 but is pretty positive about Acid, ranked two places higher. That's a big leap.

Not a fan of the way people get into the whole "Kojima was done" narrative as a stick to beat the game with either. Like...it gives you enough sticks as it is, it's far from perfect. Why go into this weird meta garbage? I've had the same problem with Star Wars criticism lately and it's irritating. Judge the game, not the surrounding rumours and speculation you use to justify yourself

But yeah not a great list. I'd also argue that the true number 1 - Substance - should be there if Subsistence is.

Parish delivers with the MG2 and Babel love! Those are some truly underrated games within the Metal Gear discussion. They may not be the narrative homeruns people want out of a MGS experience, but oh man do they deliver mechanically. So much fun.

MGS5 and Peace Walker are entirely too high for my tastes. I dont have a real fondness for either. MGS4... well, Im of the mind that its a bad game on almost all sides. The more distance you have, the more glaring its technical, mechanical and narrative flaws become in relation to every other game in the series. Ooooof!

The more I have thought about it over the years, the more I realize that the only MGS game that isn't "narratively flawed" is MGS1. Losing the original translator really hurt the scripts after that.

Really terrible list that barely understands metal gear at a surface level, if at all. Could've at least gotten the basics right like the fact that it definitely shouldn't have Acid and such in there and there is no MGS5.

1. MGSV GZ+TPP
2. MGS2
3. MGS3
4. MGS4

Peace Walker ranked too high on his list. It was a snoozefest wanking to The Boss that's even more hilarious than Kojima's Big Boss boner. I remember there was a tape that was 20 minutes long with EVA talking about how great The Boss was. That was hilariously bad.

I played 4 a few years late and was totally floored. My first ever time playing those games was all in a row back to back, so there was no separation of time between them. 4 totally stood above the rest, though I'm still a bigger fan of the MGS3 camp on a personal level.

the fanservice and over the top cheese carried that game and it's pretty apparent that was what Kojima was going for

i've only played the numbered mgs games, and the only thing that feels wrong there is mgs4 being a little low

but i mean, i never played snake's revenge so who knows maybe it's better.

Oh man, the little frogs in MGS3.

I never did bother finding more than a few of those. Sometimes, sometimes, silly quests like that in games can hook me, but I could never be bothered to try with MGS3, haha.

Was there a reward for finding them all? Knowing MGS3, it was frog camo.

It unlocks the stealth camo. There's a frog camo that you can find in-game that makes it easier to locate them.

Haha, I completely forgot that. I am shook.

The random soldier from MGS1, whose only defining characteristic is that he has a serious bowel issue, marries the very woman who left him knocked out and naked on the floor. The same man who, many years later, has seemingly not sought medical care for his condition, and now debases himself by pooping in rusted containers.

And they get married in front of all the main players, on airstrip. With a cargo plane setting the mood.

Metal Gear Solid.

On the topic of the list, if I had to make my own top 5, one that is simultaneously reflective of how I feel about the games in a general sense, mixed with which ones I would care most to play today, it would probably look something like this...

1| Metal Gear Solid (I love caribou)
2| Metal Gear 2
3| Metal Gear Solid 2
4| Ghost Babel
5| Metal Gear Solid 5

I dont totally disagree with Parish in some respects, but we have differences in how we value some of the newer entries. His appreciation for the usually disregarded side, or pre-PS1, games Im right there with him on.

I never did play Revengeance, but I feel like that would be a good time.

It is extremely important that V is not 5. To still call it 5 indicates a missed understanding of that game and also the series as a whole (though the rest of the ranking provides more than enough indication of that).

MGSV is not MGS5. That was very intentional. Had things gone differently a game called MGS5 could still have been made after the fact.
