I picked Makoto, but looking back, I'm having second thoughts. I like her character archetype and general personality, but it felt like there was very little growth, and her Confidant arc kinda sucked.

Now that I'm looking at doing NG+, tell me who to waifu and why.

In relation to a junior in high school, she's pretty damn old!

At least her storyline is good. But in the end the non-romance option made her seem more like a surrogate mother, and Oedipus complexes are eugh.

Important note: Futaba is not on my radar. This is because Futaba is basically the anime version of my cousin, and I'm not fucking my cousin.

I really didn't think Makoto was a very interesting Confidant or too compelling as a romantic option. I thought the Haru romance worked alright, but in general P5's waifus weren't the greatest. The age thing is an issue.

Not sure how far you are into Kawakami's storyline, but she has one of the best Confidant stories in the game and the way the romance progresses honestly feels more natural than the other ones even with the whole teacher angle

Ann has deifnitely grown on me, but I think Makoto is the best girl overall. Her social link would have been better if she was just flat out wrong about her friend's boyfriend. Would have been some decent development for here because she does tend to be a know it all sometimes.

Makoto peaks in her awakening scene and gets progressively more boring as the game goes on

I look forward to P5 Crimson where Haru is actually part of the game and not tacked on at the end.

Also Haru is the only rejection that the devs actually wrote to make you feel like an asshole about, so thank you devs for making sure I'll never pick her out of spite.

Makoto feels the most right. Top tier outfit, fucking motorcycle persona, generally good overall. That and its fun to tease here constantly during her confidant story (who cares if it isn't optimal relationship leveling fuck it it's funny. Beep Boop.)

Kawakami is the best confidant

Futaba is the cutest to me. That and I view it as best potential path so MC gets to become Sojiro's son in law down the line. Then they can all be one big wacky family

His confidant story was good and all from what I recall but I just found Kawakami's far better.

Her and Sun were the best to me

I am also kind of in the minority that thought Kawakami was fine but nothing super spectacular, both her and her confidant link.

Ann

It is such a breath of fresh air to have a female that's actually attractive and can be the butt of jokes. She has an excellent arc, ranging from "forced to be shallow" to "legitimately vengeful" to letting her hair down. Everything that happens around her kinda helps to drag her down - Ryuji toward her's rough chemistry, the whole "tell a girl to pose nude just after she survived sexual abuse" thing is rough - but she pulls it off and with a great deal more grace and comedy than, say, Chie kicking Yosuke in the balls a lot. Ann gets legitimately the best comedy spot in the game in Dungeon 7 as well, and her wanting to grow up to be Doronjo is absolutely adorable.

Only weakness is, honestly, first girl syndrome and that the game goes HEY LOOK AT THESE OTHER OPTIONS. Kinda shuffles her into the background unfairly when she remains the most consistently enjoyable option. Makoto fades with reflection, Ann becomes better with it.

And mind charge Fire Amp Fire Boost Agidyne is super fun.

Surface level, sure.

But there's actual resonance and wit and funny in there that isn't just "oh it's Mitsuru but less sheltered and more aggressive", "oh she's a social disaster", "oh she's the moe one", "oh she's the hot overworked teacher with a legit good story". Ann felt like the only one that evolved past the trappings of her archetype for me, which put her on par with the P4 waifus as opposed to "damn you hot but you 2D as fuck".
