The original phrase is "happy as a clam at high water" which is when they are safest from predators.

Clams get to close themselves up from the world anytime they want. Of course theyre always happy.

The phrase I dont understand is Happy as a lark. In my experience, birds are always angry.

Also happy as a horseshoe crab is apparently a thing?
