I don't get it. That looks like the same style of fighting and fun that a lot of modern day FPS games have today.

not even close

the movement skills required for QWTF completely dwarf modern FPS games by a huge margin, not to mentioning proper aim and positioning are far more important in QWTF given the generous amount of projectile based weapons compared to ADS hitscan that runs rampart in modern FPS

I think you have some serious nostalgia glasses on.

I don't really agree with that.

Modern shooters are so far removed from 90s/early 2000s arena shooters that they really only have the first person view and guns in common.

no, not really

games like QWTF and TFC had a fucking huge skill floor and ceiling because of the many different mechanical skills required for them

they required more than just good aim and positioning

the movement systems in those games have been all but neutered in modern FPS gaming and concaim alone takes more mechanical skill than pretty much the entirety of modern FPS (you effectively have to learn 2 different ways of aiming in TFC with hitscan weapons)

I'm happy modern FPS games don't include techniques like this. I think it brings unbalance to the game.

not really, these games were designed around complex movement skills and created a measurable skill difference in players beyond basic aiming and positioning

Gamers just don't enjoy arena style games anymore, most popular FPS games have a low skill floor. The only FPS game I really play anymore is TF2, which has most of the complex movements styles, and Titanfall 2, which has a few.

Huh, I just checked the wiki and your right, TFC has a lot more movement techniques than TF2. Really the only advanced movements that TF2 has is either rocket or sticky jumping. Still more than most modern FPS games though.

I don't see how that detracts from their legitimacy. Why should people not be rewarded for acquiring a better understanding of how the game works? Should my thousands of hours going through jump maps in TF2 not allow me to lord over the people who have not devoted the same amount of effort?

nope, valve specially made patches to tweak those skills rather than outright remove them

prior to steam bunnyhopping had an unlimited movement speed increase, once steam was released TFC was patched to have bhop cap at 170% speed

Because they are exploits and unintended mechanics. It is the fastest way I can think of to lose the userbase of a multiplayer game.

Why does their presence being intended or not have an impact there? And how is it an exploit if it's the logical end result of the physics engine?

The building that is required in Fortnite ruins it for me, personally. That clip in post #37 looks more like a building-fight than a gunfight.

Yeah definitely, but that's part of the appeal and what sets it apart from a typical gunfight for me. You're constantly jockeying for position, looking for openings and trying to protect yourself. It makes for some intense engagements
