exactly.

and the comparative price to the name brand(s).

for instance mayonaise (something I don't eat a lot of) pretty much tastes the same no matter who made it.

i think it is funny when people crack on people that buy store brands. My parents buy a lot of store brand stuff, while some people would laugh and call them broke they have way more zeros in their bank account and go on trips like 4-5 times a year and drive late model cars. because they are smart enough to know cream cheese is cream cheese

I'm usually fine with store brand, but certain things I like there isn't usually a store brand for at all or it's just not very good, like more exotic flavors of Mountain Dew.

Oh, and offbrand Pop Tarts aren't as good as the real thing.

But for most items I get what's cheapest, often the store brand but sometimes the name brands are on sale for cheaper.

That's the company with those Spurs commercials? Hillarious stuff.

Anyhow, where I live every city has a market. People from rural areas around the city come with they products and sell them there. Everything is natural without any kind of shitty additives. That's the fruit/vegetables market.

As for meat, I just go to the butchery and buy the fresh stuff.

I don't buy a lot of things where there would be much of a difference.

I do like trying different types of bbq sauce, so I don't buy the store brands for that. But otherwise I don't care that much. However, I do notice a difference sometimes: the store brand dill pickles are not that good, Vlassic taste much better.

This.
Sometimes it's worth paying more to get the big brand, but other times, it makes no difference at all.
Like the chips, shredded cheese and salsa to make nachos, I get the cheap brand, they make absolutely no difference and cost half the price than buying Tostitos brand chips and salsa, and the cheese is quite a bit cheaper too.

Used to do it at Bakers(Kroger). Pay about $150 less per month now and it tastes the same in most cases, and just a bit worse in the rest.

Malt o' meal cereal is the shiznit. Most canned beans or veggies I'll buy store brand. Things like shredded cheese or milk I'll buy store brand. Frozen veggies whichever is cheaper. Same with meat. I don't buy frozen meals, snacks, or drinks. Fresh fruit and veggies are just that.

So most of the stuff I buy is store brand.

i agree with the general consensus ITT that "it depends on the item".

sometimes store brand stuff is identical, other times it's absolute rubbish.

i find things like medications (aspirin, allergy meds, etc) the generic is fine

things like paper towels have a noticeable difference in quality in Bounty vs store-brand, for example. sometimes i prefer cheap ones for when the quality doesn't matter (wiping off hands) but sometimes having thick/durable ones around is nice. this same thing applies to trash bags.

i find most condiments the generic is fine. things like mustard, mayo, etc.

it's basically trial and error.

The big thing for me is bread. Store brand can be fine for hotdog and hamburger buns but some breads are just awful. I'd rather spend the extra buck and get Aunt Millie's.

Oh, and toilet paper. Angel Soft isn't that fucking expensive people, quit buying Bargain Mart's Sandpaper Deluxe.

For example, I never buy brand name milk. Either GV from Walmart or Sams Club milk.
