I was thinking about it earlier today and I'm not great at expressing why exactly I dislike this season, but I had a thought:

Pre-swap, first swap. Malolo had Gonzalez and Jacob on the outs, but there WERE alliances formed. You had the pretty people: Michael, Libby, Jenna, Stephanie, Brendan. Versus the "minorities": Laurel, Donathan, James.

Meanwhile, you have Naviti divided right down the middle: Chris/Angela/Sebastian/Desiree/Chelsea vs. Bradley/Kellyn/Domenick/Wendell/Morgan.

Watching the show, it's clear that both of these divides have colored the way people are playing. I mean, Chris got booted with Desiree as one of the few outsider votes, which makes sense. Chelsea being dead-set on taking out Bradley makes sense. Laurel/Donathan/James willingly working with Domenick/Wendell and targeting Morgan, who was getting too close to Libby, makes sense. Michael and Libby being a showmance makes sense.

The problem is we're NOT getting a lot of this information, if we're getting it at all. Too much of the screentime is focused on people finding idols or advantages, and spending the time explaining the history of those idols and advantages. Plus Ghost Island, which is basically useless thus far. And it ends up with the editors reducing everything to Domenick/Wendell running the show while all the other characters just exist to be eliminated after one episode of solid screentime. And THAT makes for shitty episodes. Libby is suddenly painted as a threat because she's Michael's girlfriend, but we never saw ANYTHING about that. Desiree turning against Kellyn is bad not only because of how underedited this alleged "Naviti girls" alliance has been, but also because it's not explained by Des being with Chris and not trusting the Dom/Wendell/Kellyn faction.

See, I can tolerate strategy talk, but you've gotta give me reasons to care about the characters. You've gotta build them up as people. Give us someone to root for or root against. These aren't just chess pieces to get voted out. I don't care about splitting the votes or flipping sides, because there's no investment in anyone's success. I want HEROES and I want VILLAINS.

GTM do you like BBCAN6 so far (edited show at least)? How many are left now?

I like the "season", I really like most of the personalities with a couple of surprising favorites (Olivia is the greatest), the gameplay is really good and complex because sides are shifting constantly, but you may not necessarily know that from the edited show, it's completely a different story than the feeds. The show is simplifying a LOT of the gameplay. IMO it's fine standalone, 80% of the time, but I don't have too many seasons to compare with (Taran says in Canada seasons, the show is 4th/6 and the feeds are 2nd/6). The other 20% is completely full of sponsors that eat up each episode, with Wendy's, Hasbro, Skip The Dishes, and Shaw, so that's a grind.

I 100% recommend Taran's daily live feed updates, as they are thorough and really go into things the show doesn't, some of them are even an hour+ long. I don't listen to them live, my schedule is:

monday's hoh comp/nominees -> friday/saturday live feed updates -> wednesday veto comp/ceremony -> sunday/monday live feed updates -> thursday eviction -> tuesday/wednesday/thursday live feed updates to find out what really happened

2 other notes: The two episode premiere was terrible, there was too much and we didn't really get to know anyone. There was also a preseason vote, and the results and the poor premiere made for a really fun 2nd episode recap with the LFC.

Thanks for all the info! Im guessing Taran has it above BBCAN3&4, but below the rest. Thats an interesting placement, hopefully not a bad thing. IMO 1/2/5 are all good/great seasons of BB, while 3/4 are some of the worst ever... 3 is probably lower than the low of any US, except maybe 19.

Ive always liked Taran, Id probably only be catching up on the edited show at this point and would miss any live feed updates. I definitely listen to him during BBUS.

Twist-free is a ringing endorsement for BBCAN. Im pretty shocked to hear that, though BBCAN5 was pretty twist-free too, and thats one of my faves.

Ill have to check it out.

Seriously, Peridiam, the live feed coverage blows the show out of the water because the house is still flip flopping even on eviction morning. When I listen to updates for Tuesdays and Wednesdays, there is so much strategy talk, and then Thursday comes and the house is flipped, it's crazy. The edited show does not do this season justice at all.

You guys, especially Inviso, will be happy to know that the "too much strategy" consensus has hit an all time high. It's not only in Survivor podcasts, to the point that they were think tanking on the Wiggle room, but it is also on podcasts that aren't about survivor. (Rob named the person in particular but I cannot remember their name). I never thought it was too much but I am also the kind of fan that listens to podcasts and pays too much attention to the details. But the major point was that it could be over the top for the casual fan. And they are saying this conversation is happening now as opposed to Game Changers because they thought was that the never ending twists were because of the season being called Game Changers. Now, they are saying with the twists staying in 2 newbie seasons it's too much. Too much for the players and too much for the casual fan.

Don't get me wrong, I love the strategy but my love for strategy is like the same reason I like baseball I love the battle of witts. So I can definitely understand why it would be too much for outside viewers.

I can kinda see that. Twists galore is one thing in an all-returnee season, especially since that alone carries a certain novelty with it, but with newbies it really distracts from them getting to just play the game.

Re:BBCAN good winners

There's two decently strong winners, one really strong social player that might win but hasn't won any comps and is always looking strong strategically but then destroying their own game and then recovering it again somehow, and two goats who probably cant win.

But even the goats are considered much stronger than the earlier players that were voted out that were considered the real goats, and the goats we see on other seasons.

spoiler statement about winner quality considering evicted house guests: there were two players that if they won, would probably warrant discussion about how they fit in top player of all time rankings. But that dream is dead
