Ive been mostly thinking about making a huge change recently at some point this year... most likely I may just go with the Fire fighting academy as I have my sights set on that and it doesn't take that long to become certified anyways.

But anyways, yeah... so what do you guys do for a living? And if so, would you recommend pursuing it? Just fishing for some ideas here.

I help people with their passwords, fixing problems people are having with their computers, and Google solutions for computer problems that I don't know how to fix.

If you see me posting here from 8AM-5PM Monday-Friday, I'm probably bored.

I work at a bank. I used to be a guy who answered the phones if you call the number on your debit card. Now I do the same job, but the only people given our department's number is wealth clients. It's more veteran employees with better numbers, so clients get a better experience and don't typically have hold times, and we get paid more than the typical inbound call center employee.

I do service and sales though. Online banking, fraud disputes, account maintenance etc on service end. Home equity loans, money markets, credit cards etc on sales end

I deliver pizza. It works for me, but I wouldn't recommend it for a full time thing if you've got better options, and definitely not if you have a college degree.

Upsides
The work is easy.
Low stress unless you dislike driving or have severe social anxiety.
You get paid in tips daily, which is good, because the major chains pay sub-minimum wage while you're out on the road (they generally pay minimum or slightly above if you're inside).
They're almost always looking for drivers, so getting hired takes very little time.

Downsides
It puts a lot of milage on your car.
You need to work weekends if you want to make money.
You're frequently outside during shitty weather.
You're a target for robberies in poorer areas.

It's working out quite well for me, although I've had an affinity for computers for about as long as I can remember, and I'm very logic-oriented, which I think has helped me immensely with my day to day work in software.

I slice meat. I hate it, I hate my backstabbing wench coworkers. Everyone is a liar and no one is honest because we're all forced to be around each other. I hate smiling at my customers like a total fraud because of that one whiny old inbred lady freaks out when people don't coddle her saggy hot cakes with a babysitter clown smile.

I'm getting into the stock market and made $50 last week. If I get to the point where I'm making more money doing that than working a real job, then I'll join the other rich parasites.

I work as a civil engineer/drafter for a small engineering company. We deal with storage handling (i.e. storage racks, gondolas, cantilevers, shelving units, etc.)

I think civil engineering as a whole is a solid field to go into. Even within the civil engineering field there's several sub fields to go into (i.e. structural, geotech, water, and transportation). Of course depending on whether you work in the private sector or public sector, the work can be very different.''

Interesting enough I almost prefer the emotionally dead cashiers. Not that I assume happy cashiers are faking it but rather at least the emotionally dead ones can't be faking that.

I do find it irksome whenever someone say "Oh, the cleaning crew will cleanup after us". Cleaning crew or not, I find it inexcusable to leave behind a mess like we're toddlers. Hell, even in fast food restaurants I find it awkward when workers take away my trash and food tray. Makes me feel like a child. Granted they probably also don't want customers to linger and might need their food trays back.

We have *stops in middle of sentence and says hi because you said hi back* Boar's Head and Private selection, turkey, ham, chicken, other shitty mystery loaves you should never eat. Boar's Head is more expensive, but some people say it's better. *starts conversation with customer on opinions about Boar's Head meat pricing where I know way too much on the subject*

We have $5000 slicers because Kroger pays waaay too much for everything. It's all cooked meats lunchmeat and it all cuts like butter.

Pity. I understand it's part of providing a pleasant buying experience but from my experience as being a cashier at a gas station and the stories my mother and sister told me from when they were cashiers, I do wish said workers can be allowed to be honest at times without repercussion. Within reason of course.

Maybe it is a pride/ego thing but I do not like having to ask workers to locate a product. I feel like an idiot especially if they have to guide me to the aisle and section to find it. Even worse is if the product was there and I was just too blind to see it.

More specifically I do new development for a project that basically categorizes all of the information on every person in the United States, mostly used by law enforcement and private investigators to track down criminals. Currently I am actually on a project that is trying to re-write the system from the ground up using modern technologies, as the existing system is around 10 years old and there exists much better ways of doing what we do.
