that it doesn't hurt my feelings when someone pokes fun at me for being skinny. My cousin just basically said I'm comparable to a "little girl" and I just laugh it off when in actuality it's a little discouraging, especially since I've been going to the gym and I was happy yesterday to realize that I put on 11 pounds in 3 months. Bleh. Everyone knows it's rude to make fun of overweight people but I think it gets overlooked that people who are underweight don't want to be made fun of for their body either. I don't even think I'm that skinny anymore. I weigh 135 now and I'm short. 5'4". Just venting on blogfaqs.

It is shitty to be rude to people over the fact they're skinny. It really doesn't get as much sympathy as being rude to fat people, and that is bullshit.

How old are you? I didn't start filling out adequately until I was about 24.

I was between 120 and 135 pounds during the years after I stopped working out but before I filled out like a man (I'm 5'9"). Nobody ever gave me a hard time about it, but I had serious insecurities about being "a skinny man", especially as all the males in my family were all 6' and up and 190-210lbs. The only reason I'm as short as I am is because I had medication that stunted my growth (which my mom complained about, they denied, then it was pulled off the market years later for *gasp* stunting growth!). Yeah, I could've worked out again, but bulking up on a boy's frame doesn't count for as much as filling out properly.

I fucking hate the "fat acceptance" movement, partly because it's basically just building itself up by shitting on other people indirectly. How about we all just stop putting anyone on a pedestal for superficial reasons? No matter how perfect a person seems, they all carry their own insecurities.

It's basically trying to force attractiveness rather than it being natural just so obese woman can continue to shove food down their throat. I never see guys doing much for this so called movement.

It's a joke. I guarantee if you gave any of them the option to "be hot" by Hollywood standards, nobody would choose otherwise. That in itself says the whole thing is phony.

You should accept people for their outward appearance and not hate them just because they let their body go. Look I am fat, 275 pounds of fat and barely any muscle. I don't expect people to be attracted to me, but I shouldn't expect people to make fun of me because I look like this either. No one should really be shames for something superficial and doesn't hurt others.

But I do agree with the forcing people to be attracted to obese people like myself stupid. No one should be forced to like something they simply just don't find attractive. But no need yo be rude to them.

This. I was 180 cm and didn't crack 60 kg until my second or third year of university (roughly 6 feet and 130 pounds respectively for the Americans out there). Even now, I can eat like a hog and I never go above 75 kg, which I'm happy with.

It's a family thing for me and I'm actually fortunate I inherited some body typing from my Mom's side (where the men tend to be a bit stockier); my Dad's side are all beanpoles and when he was in university he was 170 cm and stuck at 50 kg. He started working out, ate a bunch of high-calorie food and got up to consuming 5000 calories a day, which is pro-athlete level and about double what the average adult male eats. He gained... one kilo. Then lost it again as soon as he stopped stuffing himself with food.

But therein lies the difference: not being shitty to people = good, reverse-shaming = bad

Some people actually expect others to just turn off their internal "attraction meter" and think they're hot even if that's not the case.

I never said I hate obese people. It honestly doesn't matter to me what shape or size you are. However I won't pretend it's a attractive look just because media and the like want to force these images down my throat.

In a ideal world nobody would be made fun of about things out of their control yet it still happens. Someones weight is in someones control to some degree but to expect no comments if you're obese or skinny is just silly because you're going to get them and even if you don't get comments about your weight you're bound to get some kind of negative comments regardless. Getting thicker skin is important here.... or not as the case maybe.

People make fun of me for being skinny. I'm like, "Yeah, you're right, I'm pretty skinny." better than being fat like you

Funnily enough, you have to work more to gain weight than to lose it, unless you want that gain to be fat.

I'm 28. Lol. I'm just naturally skinny and the people that know me tell me i eat a lot. I used to be even lighter. In college I was a little over 110 at 5'4" high. I started working out around the age of 23 and was able to get up to 128. I was pretty defined and lifting more than people thought I could just by looking at me. I stopped working out and about 3 months ago I decided to start again and weigh myself. I was 124 lbs with 19% body fat. Now that I'm at 135 I'm not sure what my body fat is but probably around the same. My goal is to be around 150. Not trying to get huge or anything. Just wanna be comfortable.

I knew someone in highschool that got made fun of cause he had started balding early. Not sure how related this is to that but he ended up committing suicide in his mid 20's.
