Just SAY "Did you want to try our ____ CREDIT CARD?"

Not rewards card.

Not refinancing.

CREDIT CARD.

Jesus fucking Christ I'm pissed. Stupid mechanic got me into a stupid Credit Card. I clearly told him I didn't want to do anything with credit.

I'm so over being nice to these people. I'm just going to decline everything. Ffs. This is the third time!

I actually did fall for this when I was like 16 at American Eagle. They were like "oh you can get 70% off this purchase by signing up for our card" and I assumed it was just like a rewards card or some shit.

Nope, full blown credit card.

Granted I should've suspected something was up when there was a box for my SSN, but y'know, I was a dumb kid

Dipshit is the wrong term. It has to be just, unethical.

I showed concern about credit. I asked if this "refinancing" would be soft or hard inquiry.

He said I'd have 6 months interest free to pay my repair bill instead of up front.

I thought "So I can save money, and instead pay this later with this refinance loan? Deal!"

Instead the shit's a credit card.

Macys did it like in post 3. I just ran with it. Then Victory Secret of all places did it by saying rewards card. Like I need a fucking underwear credit card. Camceled that immediately.

But now it happened again. Just screw it. Anything that needs a ssn is getting a no from me. Lesson learned.

That's why I always ask if it's a credit card up front. They've never lied to me when it has been.

Also there's nothing wrong with having multiple credit cards, especially if you're getting some sort of benefit from it (0% interest on a big purchase for instance).

Yea, but I don't like these specialized cards. I could get something useful like American Express with it's luscious 5% cash back.

Instead I get mislead into overly specific cards.

But you don't have to use the card after you pay it off. You can just close it or use it every couple of months for a soda or something just so they don't close it for you if you want that credit age to build up.

Will the average age of credit still be present if I close it?

I'm terrible at math, so I'll just say that closing an account basically strikes it from the record so to speak (as far as account age goes), so it's more beneficial to keep older cards open for as longer but if you close a new one it won't make a huge difference.

But don't do something silly like keep a card with an annual cost attached to it just to keep the age up.

I thought the guy would tell me if it was a credit card since I expressed credit concerns. And there were other people in line, so I didn't want to hold them up.

And... no one reads agreements...

Maybe I'll keep it then ig... it doesn't say annual fee anywhere of the paperwork I have... thanks.

So you didn't step aside and take 5 minutes to read through it when you were skeptical.

Take personal responsibility for your actions next time.

It's up to you really. Credit age doesn't make a huge difference but if you don't owe an annual fee on it then it doesn't hurt to just keep it open (I guess unless someone gets the info for it somehow then charges to it that could cause you problems, just make sure you have e-mail statements activated).
