I have to give the study abroad office my passport in about an hour. Then on Thursday I have my last pre-trip meeting with my advisor. Next week I finalize my flights. Then in May I have to do a safety thing with the State Department. Then after all that I just need to pay my tuition.

Cant believe this is probably actually happening.

That shouldn't be too hard. That's a like a couple of paychecks based on how much you make. Although, I guess you still have to pay you bills and things like that, so...

What isn't nearby once you're there? How long is this study visa good for? And what country is it for?

Either I dont understand, or you dont. Im not getting a study visa. Im just taking a few courses as part of a university sponsored study abroad. Ill be in each of those countries for about a week, but Ill also have free three-day weekends to do and go what I want. Ill be in Europe for 33 days.

Have you been given any tips for staying in these countries? Or just safety in general? I would like to hear them if so.

Hope you have a great trip to Europe, TC! I went to Netherlands(and then, my 1st time ever in Europe anywhere) in summer 2016, followed by a trip to Ireland and Northern Ireland(UK) last summer. Hope I get to more parts of Europe, someday.

I'm impressed you're visiting that many countries. I sometimes wish the others I was with(my family) had done at least one side trip to somewhere outside Netherlands on that trip in 2016, but it's okay. I still had a good time doing things in Amsterdam, Haarlem, Delft, and even went to Keukenhof(a spring seasonal tulip garden between Haarlem and Delft, via taking a bus from Amsterdam's airport).

sorry; i didn't mean to skip over this. I'm taking my trip with my university, so even though I got some basic safety tips at safety orientations (make sure your passport is always on you, don't carry too much money at once), I don't feel like my trip will probably be safer than the average person's. We're only staying in 4- and 5-star hotels, and all our activities are centered in wealthy parts of town with really high safety ratings. We're encouraged to go out to bars and stuff, but looking at websites of nearby attractions to where I'll be staying, they look pretty upscale and not really the sort of place where safety will be a foremost concern. Wish I had more to tell you :/

visiting that many places is cool, especially since I don't know if I'll ever have the opportunity to go again, but I'm only overseas for 30ish days, so I spend less than a week in each country, and will only visit global hubs (I'm a PoliSci major and most of my class time is going to be spent in government offices/locales). So I probably won't be getting a lot of cultural experience like I would be if I stayed longer or spent some time in smaller towns. Not that we won't be taking excursions to museums and places, of course.

This, I practically live on the border of The Netherlands and Germany and it's still a six hours drive.

I've done it before and I've travelled even further by car but Berlin is basically on the other side of Germany. Not exactly my backyard.
I've always thought it to be funny that a lot of people outside Europe think everything is close, it's really not.

Because some of it is. It would take about 3-5 days to drive across America or Canada. 6 hours is nothing and I've had similar length of trips.

It takes me 13-14 hours to drive home from my university, and thats within the same state. Im not saying six hours is close, but thats not considered a particularly taxing drive where Im from. More like an inconvenient one.

Heck, sometimes going to the store or work and back can be a 3-5 hour drive <_< (due to traffic though, not distance)
