Then you watch the prequels and those vague references all stop mattering because now you know literally everything he mentions is either a lie, or was generally terrible. And we won't even get into what Anakin being a whiny bitch 112% of the time does to your perception of Darth Vader. The prequels absolutely make the OT worse simply by existing. We only assume it's fascist because it's clearly modeled on the real-world Nazis. It could easily be a different kind of totalitarian dictatorship. Like how she could just "die" from being sad after having the kids. Perhaps she was struggling the whole time against the "love" that was forced apon her. The killing of the kids, and the pure evil that she saw Anakin becoming was too much for her, and since she couldn't lift the compulsion, she just gave up and died. That would make Anakin evil even before many of his other actions, since he dominated her will, to make her love him. That underlying act could actually be what led him down the path to the darkside more then anything else. Then you watch the prequels and those vague references all stop mattering because now you know literally everything he mentions is either a lie, or was generally terrible.
