It's interesting, but tonight made me see that the difference between New Japan and WWE is that I don't get bothered when a guy I dislike wins a title in New Japan. I always expect it to go somewhere interesting. I have faith in the booking. Here, I nitpick because I've been trained to know that every minuscule bad decision is lethal.

One thing that bothers me a little in New Japan is when guys randomly challenge for titles instead of building to it, though thats rare, and those instances are the exceptions that prove how good the booking normally is.

Im talking stuff like Juice losing his NEVER title shot, but now being the next challenger for Jay Whites US Title, a higher championship, for no discernible reason

Dave confirmed that Alexa Bliss actually injured her shoulder by Nia Jax throwing her around the ring one of those dozens of times she did it that looked horrible.

Nia is terrible and the entire women's roster should refuse to face her because there is a decent chance she will injure them.

It was an interesting finish tbh, I didn't have much of an issue with it. Charlotte isn't really weakened by this, but they had to give Carmella some credibility if they want to use her long-term.

I actually figured Carmella was just going to be a quick transitional champ before Asuka gets the belt until last night. Unless they start an angle Tuesday where Charlotte has a "knee injury", I think they're giving Carmella a real shot here. I've definitely been wrong about this stuff before (like when I thought Alexa was the first person to get a shot at Becky's title because it'd be an easy first defense to start a long and well deserved title run. Whoops)

I would just argue that Charlotte made a mistake, landed on her leg wrong, and then Carmella capitalized. Carmella didn't knock Charlotte out with a finisher or force her to tap. She snuck in a 3 count. I'm definitely still of the mindset that Charlotte could kick her ass.

If Charlotte had struggled to kick out or kicked out just after the 3 count was complete I think that would be the case. She was laying there like she just took a finisher while the pin was happening, and then rolled over holding her knee after. I don't think it hurts her a ton, but it defineitly hurts her because it's Carmella.

When it happened I thought about when Eddie got hurt on that frog splash and the match ended right away with someone rolling over and pinning him so he could get help. Maybe even when Orton broke his collarbone and they skipped ahead to Trips hitting him with the sledgehammer to end the match right away. Thought she might be legitimately hurt because of how quickly the ending went, until I realized that they wouldn't be rolling her up with her legs like that if she could have really messed up her knee.

I don't think it'll be Finn because he just lost to the IC champion. Rollins probably won't get it while he has the IC belt. Not sure if Braun and Lashley are an actual tag team now, or if last night was just a one time thing. If they are a team now I can't think of anyone else that it could be aside from Roman. I don't think Sami or Kevin are going near Brock right now. Is there someone I'm missing?

Wait what? Charlotte is just as much a larger, bigger threat to Carmella as Nia is to Alexa. None of Carmella's offense outside of the superkicks were devastating, she kept running away (MITB era Miz style), and she was trash talking to mask the fact she has shit skills compared to Charlotte.

She is not meant to be taken seriously at all, but we complain ALL THE FUCKING TIME about "cheap wins build no credibility," or "They need to not look like wusses even as chicken shit heels." Carmella is the definition of a person who SHOULD be treated as such. But even I will take a lucky break fluke win over the IIconics fucking things over. Cause you'd just have Charlotte pull a Roman Reigns and get another title shot that way.

Carmella's weak as fuck still, but they solved the Charlotte problem by beating her by herself. Asuka, Becky, and Naomi can still beat Carmella if they want to, or save the IIconic things for later. If you noticed, the crowd gave Carmella zero faith. She is a total work in progress, and its probably going to be way harder to build her than it was for Alexa, who cheated way more.

I agree that outside interference was not the way to go.

But Carmella was in control the majority of the match, and even the injury was a result of an on-the-fly adjustment to Carmella skillfully dodging the moonsault.

I'd argue against this. You can cheat and still lose. The more you cheat the less credibility gained, obviously, but something like say Ambrose vs. Styles last year where Styles won with only a low blow made it clear that Styles was basically equal to Ambrose. It would have been strange for Styles, who in kayfabe is outstandingly good face or heel, to need multiple weapons shots, distractions, interferences, exposed turnbuckles etc to win. Just one low blow was all it took to tip the scales.

Like you have to be close enough to them that a low blow is all you need to get the win, I guess?

Had Carmella won here with only, say, feet on the ropes or a slight distraction then that would have shown she can compete with Charlotte which in Carmella's case is quite a big gain.

I think part of it is the ridiculous lengths people go to in matches to justify "looking good." I wonder if the art of winning matches by any means necessary was lost. Realistically, what Carmella did was fine. High stacked roll up, 1-2-3. Her character is about saying, "Haha still champ, fuck you guys." She has no inclination (nor should she) about trying to be like Miz is now (a guy trying to prove he's JUST as good as Rollins in ring, despite his past as a heel who'd cheat).

Cynicism be damned, any match can be won by any move in any fashion. At least it SHOULD be that way. 6 F5's versus a freaking roll up all mean the same in the end. I mean, Rolllins took two SCFs but won with one Curbstomp. Kinda weird and uneven, but he won, so there.
