In a stirring gesture of unity and compassion, several Muslim groups took out a full-page ad in the newspaper to voice their opposition to anti-Semitism. In giant, bold black text across the top, the ad read: We Muslims have one word for Jews. Shalom.

As Muslims, we believe that the time has come to speak out. For far too long, anti-Semitism has gone unchecked, the ad continued. Eradicating it is a challenge faced by all of us.

We understand that many in our country empathize with the Palestinians and their right to a sovereign state. However, we must be ever vigilant against those who cynically use international issues to vilify Jews or promote anti-Semitic tropes. There is no cause that can justify the promotion of hate. Just as we challenge those who recycle anti-Muslim tropes, we stand firmly against racism directed at our Jewish sisters and brothers.

According to the Jewish Telegraphic Agency, the statement was a welcomed follow-up to the Board of Deputies of British Jews denouncing Islamophobia last week.

The Board of Deputies of British Jews expressed their appreciation for the ad on Twitter, saying: Incredible solidarity a full-page ad by Muslim sisters and brothers. Thank you. Together we will defeat the twin evils of anti-Semitism and anti-Muslim hate.

I think sometimes people especially the right wing get so lost screaming about Israel and Palestine that they forget at the heart of it they are talking about human beings. Not hypothetical numbers or robots. Guys who gotta go to work in the morning and take their kids to school who get headaches and stay up too late at night procrastinating.

Remember that there is no such thing as monsters. Only people. You other and dehumanize people when you turn them into monsters just to make it easier to categorize them.

Most Muslims are good people - great people. Most Muslims don't hate Jews. The problem we have is that, whenever something is done to Palestinians that can be painted in a negative light, the entire Muslim community in the ME and around the world is quick to condemn Israel, while actively ignoring what the Palestinians may have done to force Israel's hand.

Take the shootings at the recent protests, for example. What were those protests about? They were about America no longer PRETENDING that Israel's capital isn't Jerusalem. Why were "protesters" shot at? Because they were shooting at the Israeli soldiers and attempting to plant bombs. Did you know that of the 78 dead, at least 50 were de-facto Hamas soldiers? I bet you didn't, because the only news report I ever saw stating Hamas had any involvement was a broadcast of a Hamas press release explicitly stating that 50 or more were Hamas soldiers - they also went on to say EVERYONE THERE belonged to a bunch of different anti-Israel terrorist groups.

To paint the "not all Muslims" picture, it'd help if you didn't actively excuse terrorism, child soldiers, rape, drug trafficking, and murder to do it.

Protip - almost any time people talk about the "horrible things" Israel does to the Palestinians, at the root of it, that's what you're doing. You're defending Hamas' child soldiers. You're defending rocket attacks and human shields. You're defending the idea that people freely elected a terrorist group to run the government, with the sole governing platform of "we're going to murder each and every Jew on the planet." You're defending a state-run media that has children on television telling all the Palestinian children to go kill Jews.

And with Iran, it's far, far worse.
