They're going the wrong way. Rather than get rid of the swimsuit competition, they should just have a Mr. America with a banana hammock competition as well.

HOW DARE YOU give the image that being fit and healthy is a good thing and needs to be encouraged?

Being fit and healthy is a tool of the patriarchy or whatever bullshit the feminists try to convince themselves of.

I would be fine with that as long as someone there to measure their dicks, both erect and flaccid.

Also they should have a "hairiest asshole" competition.

It shouldn't count for more than the swimsuit portion did, but the Miss America people did use to say that the swimsuit competition was to measure "physical fitness". Maybe that's a back-fit, but ...

I never really understood who the audience for these things was to begin with. Obviously the swimsuit portion is geared towards men but the questions and stuff seemed more meant for women. Either way, it's all super fucking boring to me. I'm not against this change at all but I don't see it changing how vapid and self-important these dumb pageants are.

If you want swimsuits, there's still Miss USA. I'm fine with Miss America differentiating itself more from Miss USA. It seems like it's been wanting to present itself as the more empowering option to Miss USA for years, so this seems like a natural extension of that.

and beauty pageants don't matter, to be honest.

If they want to turn this pageant into something else, good for them.

I think there viewership will be different, and will possibly go down, but they are within their rights to try something new if they believe that women should be about more than beauty. I personally think that's a great thing.

Just to be clear, I haven't watched Miss America in a long time, so I don't care about this change. But somebody on the radio said that a lot of girls who have been staying in shape for years in the hopes of getting on Miss America are going to be angry that their work was for nothing, so I thought that if Miss America replaced the swimsuit portion with some "fitness test" it would create better will among the contestants.

Basically whoever owns them, they are pretty much the same thing except USA used to be owned by Trump. For that reason, people tend to think America is the more "prestigious" pageant (Even though USA is part of the "Universe" umbrella so they are recognized world-wide, while America is not).

I couldn't care less about the change because I never have or will watch Miss America. However, don't most of these women like that kinda stuff? I knew a girl who ran for one of the Miss State pageant things and she liked the swimsuit competition cause she looked awesome.

It reminds me of when they got those whatever girls from Formula 1 because it was 'sexist'. Do people think these girls don't like being looked at?

I don't see what's wrong with wanting people to think you look sexy. People call it objectification, but I honestly don't think that means a thing because it differs from person to person. I can feel objectified when people ask me to borrow my truck, but that doesn't mean the next person down is gonna feel the same way.

Some people want to look hot and want to be sex icons. Sex negative feminism is awful. Why ruin it for the ones that want to do it?

Also, every "sex positive" industry comes with wrinkles of harassment, exploitation, objectification, assault, etc. You can like the idea of "sex positive" feminism in theory, but it's naive to think it's a net positive for women right now. That kind of bad shit comes with the territory and the necessary cultural change to fix it isn't going to happen for decades, if ever

Evidently it's just every industry that comes with wrinkles of harassment and exploitation. This isn't just limited to whatever you think the 'sex positive' industry is. With the exception of human trafficking situations and the like, women are more than capable of choosing not to be involved in organizations that objectify them.

If we think of it in terms of the porn industry - are there women that are exploited? Absolutely. But are there women that do it because they love what they do and make a shit ton of money? Absolutely. So we're gonna tell the women who like what they do to fuck off because other people are being exploited? That's ridiculous.

Let people make their own decisions. If a woman doesn't want to participate in a contest that shows off their ass, fine. She doesn't have to do it.

All that said, these are of course private organizations that are more than welcome to make their own decisions and do what's in their own best interest. I'm only talking in principality, not in terms of this particular situation.

What makes one group of women's feelings on the matter more important than the other's? You act like it's such a tragedy, these poor women will have to put more clothes on for one competition. They still get to be glammed up and it's not like they're going to be wearing baggy jumpsuits that hide their nice figures. They can still get their name out there and find somewhere else to be sexy. The only difference is now the ones who don't want to strut around half-naked can be more comfortable. I don't see the big deal, seems like it works out for everybody.

For the pageant for the ladies under 18, they actually have a thing where like about 25%-50% is optional. They also cost money to enter. They could do that with things like the swimsuit contest...
