There's one event you have to trigger at a certain point in her Confidant, but it takes place at school, so if you're on summer break, it won't activate until you go back.

I might be reading too much into this, but didn't Morgana say that you can't have a persona and a palace because to be a persona-user you have to conquered your own distortions? They said it like twice. Because Futaba totally has a persona while her palace is still around. I mean, yes, she starts manipulating the palace and stuff, but it's totally still there. Also, I like how the solution to learning that you didn't kill your mother is to help kill an illusion of your mother. I like even more that I was affected by despair and had no way to lift it, but the battle just ended with my getting a button prompt to instakill the boss' last third of health with a gunshot.

Futaba herself was the treasure? But I assume she wouldn't have been there if she hadn't happened to figure out how to enter the Metaverse, right? I thought every palace forms around a treasure. Unless Morgana meant the Shadow Futaba?

I dunno if you've already started the Devil confidant yet, but IIRC doing that one boosts Charm. Also going to the bathhouse on a certain night I think? Maybe that was a different stat.

Any night you're doing Yoshida or Ohya's confidant you should go to Chihaya and get the Charm boost. They don't give it every time, but unless you look it up in a guide it's better safe than sorry.

Two events, actually. I found this out the hard way on my current run. Thought I was safe but then nope!

That said, Rank 5 shouldn't be it unless I just totally blanked on it. It's after Rank 8 and then again after Rank 9. You need to go to school for those events.

Re: Bathhouse. IIRC it's more effective on certain days. ...Monday and Thursday? You're told at some point I think. If you've examined the bathhouse before and got the tutorial pop-up for it I think it'd be in the Tutorials under System on the Main Menu but I'm not sure.

yeah, just a heads up about summertime. people will call you and want to hang out all day basically. This is generally viewed as not worth the time it takes up. You're better off ignoring them (even though it'd be rude IRL) and focusing on confidants and/or stats.

In all seriousness, any advice for gunning charm? I know to talk to Chihaya, but after that do I just go to the diner and do whatever else at night?

I'd probably rank your options something like this:

1. Ohya/Yoshida Links (I guess technically if they're not giving Charm on a meeting this isn't ideal but advancing their links is probably worth it for its own sake)
2. Bathhouse (Monday or Thursday or Rain. You may need to savescum rain though because there's a chance on rain you get Guts instead)
3. Movie if it's a Charm Movie.
4. Charm DVDs
5. If you're in September there's: A Maid Cafe in Akihabara
6. Charm Books
7. Video Games
8. Bathhouse (Not one of those situations listed before)

...I think. That's purely from a Charm perspective, I ignored any other stats. Otherwise Diner would make it for the Knowledge. There's also some other edge cases like succeeding the Burger Challenge.

So I guess that'd translate to a flowchart like:

Day (No School): Movie -> DVD -> Video Game
Day (School): Movie -> (September) Maid Cafe
Night: Devil/Sun -> Bathhouse (Mon/Thurs/Rain) -> basically anything else on that list

I'm not confident I'll play the others. Some of the things I enjoyed the most about this game I've learned were invented by it. I also like the ambush mechanic, which I assume isn't present in the other ones since they aren't about thieves (I assume).

Not the ambush mechanic as it stands in P5, but preemptive strikes are a part of the others, too.

Persona 4 is a lot better though.

My recommendation is actually not to gun for maxing any stat at the moment. You'll have plenty of chances to increase stats over time, and those bonuses will be wasted if you max early. Increasing various Confidants should almost always come first.

Preemptive strikes have been around since Persona 3. I don't think Persona 5 invented anything outside of better dungeon design and extra gameplay bonuses when leveling Confidants.

I may go with this only because I wanted to increase other confidants anyway, but Makoto is probably in my top three confidants right now. It sucks that I can't do anything with her.

Well, Persona 4 has gameplay bonuses with your party member S. Links. P5 just expands on it even more.

P3/P4 are like Mementos where you would gain battle advantage by hitting the enemy without getting detected.

From a theme/narrative point of view, Futaba's Palace Arc is very similar to how Persona 4 handled things.

Well, he's saying it's similar in the way you approach random battles, which is true. P3 and P4 have good dungeon ideas and concepts, but in terms of execution, they aren't great for the most part (Mementos is still worse though, yeah). It's the one area where P5 indisputably crushes them.

Oh, it 100% is worse. It's just that's seemed a more succinct way to relate how battle advantage/ambushes worked in those games than trying to word it out like... "Pretend you couldn't hide behind stuff in Palaces and had to approach shadows to hit them. Which you can do, but I mean why would you it has no style."

No. While there's a few confidants that's true for, Takemi is not one of them. Some ranks just require more points to reach than others.

If there's some barrier between you and a rank-up the card on the quick travel map should turn grey and I don't think it'll let you spend time with them if you try to.
