I mean here we are, less than a week from release. Now, it'd be one thing if they had to prepare for physical copies and shipment and releases and shit like that, but they don't. It's all just downloading through the store.

What exactly still needs to be done that is preventing them from saying "ah fuck it" and releasing it on Thursday/Friday and giving us a full weekend to play?

They don't really have any reason to care about you getting to play it all weekend, so why would they bump it up for that?

I hope this means a sale will happen for the PS4 version soon. I'm mainly an Xbox gamer but I need reasons to play my PS4 that isn't just Yakuza right now tbh.

It the leftover model for physical releases. If the delivery date was Friday and your shipment was late you would miss a whole weekend of sales on a big name title. So instead of getting most places their shipments Friday and making them sit on it, they try to get places the stuff Monday for sale Tuesday.

It also makes it so if it was later in the week it would be wierd putting it in the ad that went out Sunday but it's nor for sale until Friday, so if it's early in the week it makes more sense for Sunday's ad.

With how efficient shipping is in general now, ads not really being as important, and the ever increasing digital sales, none of it is really relevant anymore. But decades ago it was a big deal, and the tradition kind of just stayed.

there's the Drakengard series, which Nier is a spin-off of, and Nier: Automata is its sequel.

you don't have to have played Nier or any of the Drakengards to enjoy Automata, but there are a few things that you'd enjoy more if you had.
