that's about as stupid as the people who proclaimed paperless offices were the future or that nobody would have to leave their house for anything ever again because drones could instantly deliver it to you

but I'm not seeing these offices where Paper isn't even required and in fact you are still required to have a legit signature you can write on person on paper despite those paperless future claims

so why do people constantly have to make claims that TV Is Dead or that computers made writing on paper obsolete

when it's so far from the truth it'll make your head spin

NMB, what is your source for all these claims? What is your source that TV is dead? What is your source that paperless means no paper at all? What is your source that drones make leaving the house obsolete?

Your asshole is not a source.

You have never had a job in your life, so what offices have you ever seen? Offices in TV shows and movies? Those are not real offices.

I work in an office that has gone paperless, but yes, we do still use paper for some things. That's inevitable. We use very very very little paper though, certainly much less than we did even 5 years ago.

Also, you think you need to sign on paper? Have you seriously never heard of a digital signature? Digital signatures are used literally all the time.

What do you even mean by "TV is dead"? Are you actually talking about cable TV? Yes, cable TV is dying, but TV itself isn't dying. It's just evolving into streaming TV. It's really no different than landline phones evolving into cellphones. Things evolve all the time.

Kinda this, although conventional tv will probably last for quite a while longer between sports and news broadcasts. I can't imagine that we'll ever see tv not broadcast over the airwaves since even today you still have devices that pick up the basic stations (as opposed to cable itself, which in some senses may go away but -- far more realistically -- the cable companies will likely just move online as well; Comcast and others *already* have streaming access. So it's not so much that something is going as it is transforming.)

I think "TV" needs elaboration

Does TC mean "cable" is dead? If so, yes, that is true. It's overpriced commercial-ridden trash.
or
Does TC mean "shows" are dead? If so, that is false. We're in basically a second golden age of television with loads upon loads of great shows out there.

He never actually said physical records. He just said "our records."

Digital records are actually safer than physical records since digital can be backed up on different servers and off-site servers. Specifically requiring a physical record is a bit odd in this day, and that's why I brought it up in the first place.

You're being a deliberate smartass.

The entire purpose of my post was just to question why he needs a physical signature when before that he said that his company has gone paperless, and this physical signature is basically the one and only physical requirement. I was just simply questioning why since a digital signature could work just as well.

For some things, paper still makes sense. A signature is not one of those things however.

Now see, this is a texbook definition of what's called a "strawman argument".

It's when someone puts words in someone else's mouth, and then argues those words that they just said.

It's important to recognize these arguments, because it doesn't forward any discussion at all, and is verbal garbage.

My office is about 90% paperless (we do have to print out stuff for interviews, reviews, and notes), and even that 10% COULD be done digitally if more people were on board with it. Also, with the signature thing, most places are saying that a written signature is LESS secure then say a digital one. Now if I am "signing" something it is usually using my phone's authenticator or a site like this:

You are a funny man zeus.

anyway, I did a quick google search as well and this was the first result

https://www.efilecabinet.com/why-some-companies-are-experiencing-paper-usage-increase/

It may seem a bit contradictory to popular common sense and logic. You may be asking yourself why it is that in an age where computers are in almost every business and where multiple file formats allow for the digitizing of almost any document are organizations using more paper. You are not alone in that line of thinking. According to several projections that were made popular in the 1970s, it was estimated that offices were supposed to be completely paperless by 2015 due to the increasing rise in computers. However, statistics would seem to suggest the exact opposite of this prediction. In fact, in the last 20 years, paper consumption in the United States and Canada has increased from 92 million tons to a whopping 208 million tons. This is a 126% increase!

And from my experiences working in offices, after you make a digital file you wind up printing it as well for whatever reason.
