A lot of my family keeps quiet about any political discussion mostly except for an uncle who outed himself recently over the illegal immigration issue.

Friends haven't said much that I'm aware of. Usually just run into Co workers depending on which facility that I sometimes work at.

What do you think will happened with these people's perspectives when Trump doesn't get elected in 2020 for a 2nd term?

I always suspected that my mother was a bit racist, and in the last few months it has been more than confirmed. I'm much more surprised that two of my sisters, one married to a pastor, have shown that they are racist as well, openly spouting racist propaganda on social media. I find this very difficult to understand, because my Grandmother marched with MLK in the 60's on several occasions. I guess the difference is that my Grandmother raised me, and my mother raised my sisters.

I think that my family members who are, have always been. Trump just gives them excuses to talk about it more.

Yeah, I have a great aunt/uncle and all of their spawn that apparently shitpost really racist (not just anti-illegal, but anti-Hispanic) alt-right garbage on social media all day long.

It's fucking ironic because my great uncle is Filipino (Hispanic).

Well, we are Canadian, so it's more an observation from afar, but my uncle is crazy. He acted like this, before though. He openly talks about how Islam should be banned and all this other crazy stuff. His greatest hits include;
- Immigration should be banned.
- Muslims conspired with Hitler during WWII.
- Residential schools are exaggerated and were a great thing for the First Nation's people.
- Slavery was a blessing for the slaves.
- Global warming and evolution are conspiracies by a global cabal of scientists who want to disprove God for shits and giggles. (His exact words where, "if you take a watch, and smash it, and put it inside a jar, and seal the jar, and shake it, and the watch repairs itself, then I'll believe in evolution")
- The Bible is 100% historically accurate, unless something is veritably wrong, then it's a translation error.
- Homosexual marriage is an abomination and will destroy the fabric of family (basically, any argument used against interracial marriage in the 50's).
- He told me I should read more because I didn't believe his insane theories about Islam (despite the fact that I actually have a university degree in history and he is a farmer and a plumber).
- Christians are the most persecuted people on the entire planet and always have been.
The great irony is that he himself is a Dutch immigrant.

I live outside the US, and one or two people in our social circles have stood up to agree with some things he's said. They're nearly always laughed out of the room though.

Basically, ever since the lead candidates were announced in the last election, discussions about the US political scene have been one big chucklefest.

Sadly for my uncle he's got that superiority complex where he believes he's right all the time and knows everything because he's older and has an education (in fixing medical machines). He posts racist propaganda on social media all the time and likes to challenege his friends and family whenever they post something that bothers him on their social media. He came across my page this time around and thought he'd take a go at me too. It ended with him running out of things to say except to boast his ego and resort to insults. It ended with him blocking me thankfully.

Most of my family moved away as we got older from each other. This uncle pretty much alienated himself from the family though. He actually still lives at the house his parents raised him at because he bought it out from his mom then forced her out. I'm happy he never reproduced.

How do you tolerate his presence? Is he like like 70+ years old?

Honestly, he tests my patience. During my 25 birthday he went on for like two hours arguing with me about how Global Warming was a myth because, when he was a kid, his town had a polluted dyke and when he came back later, it had cleaned itself. He once asked me if I was a Christian, I respectfully told him no and said that it just wasn't for me. He kept prodding and I kept respectfully telling him I just wasn't interested and it turned into this two hour argument about how the Bible is the most historically accurate book ever made and when I pointed out to him some of the discrepancies, he told me those were because of translation errors or poetic interpretations. It's frustrating. I have to block his posts from my Facebook feeds because he keeps posting literal white supremacists articles.

He's like in his 50s or 60s. It's really, really annoying.

I have always believed that those who come here LEGALLY (and fully assimilate while in public) have every right to be here. While those who hop a fence or overstay a student visa or whatever should be sent back to their home country at THEIR expense without being given a hearing to determine if they can stay here.

The only thing giving illegal immigrants due process does is let others considering the journey know that they have a likely 50/50 shot of being allowed to stay here after breaking the law to come here. In other words in encourages even MORE illegal immigration. So then why bother having immigration laws or laws in general in the first place?

So nothing has changed on my viewpoints since Trump was elected.

I have family, friends, and coworkers I will never speak to about politics or race issues. I can't stand this political gang mentality people have. It just irritates me that many won't think outside their own political or racial bubbles.
