Ugh...that is the most depressing fire-making tiebreaker in Survivor history. Not only does a massive fan favorite go out, but it's also like, the only time where the losing player actually had a decent flame on several occasions and COULD have won.

Based off of what I heard about him, I did not expect to like Dick but I do find him and his Danielle storyline to be endearing. I of course like Eric. I have liked Dustin a lot more than I thought I would from his arc type.

That was pretty much my thoughts on the first episode of Australian Survivor too (which I know you weren't talking about here). For those wanting to watch, there's a second episode on tomorrow and episodes 3-6 are on Mon-Thur next week.

Spoilers on Ep 1:

I recorded the episode and it cut off the voting. I knew who was likely getting eliminated by that stage anyway, and probably won't even bother streaming the last few minutes (I confirmed my guess was right as to who got eliminated online, even though it was pretty clear). One of the stupidest moves I have seen, going off like that at tribal.

As for Russell, "..." sums that situation up with the idol perfectly. Seriously? I call BS.

I agree with this but that doesn't change that production wanted it to continue so they vote stuffed those "AmERICa's Votes." I can't forgive blatant production manipulation even when it produces good TV. Dick has all the complexities of the best reality TV villains, a club which he is among. Even so...

I'll start Australian Survivor 3 later. I'm still recovering from burnout.

Tyler coming through like a boss with the Veto use AND causing havoc within Level 6, I knew I liked him (more than the rest of them at least).

Man Rachel is an enigma. She went from invisiboring, to low-key try-hard (triggered by getting the Crap App), to trainwreck (triggered by being put on the block). I guess that makes her the second-best Level 6er, especially if this is the end of her story, but still.

i mean, Angela was basically right about it. why would you say she sucks because she could correctly figure out that Tyler wasn't throwing her name out there? granted Rachel didn't make up the lie, but believing the HOH in the opposing alliance who has nominated you isn't much better.

Despite hating Brett I'm actually kinda hoping Rachel goes so that as far as character development goes she can end on a high note, whereas we know Brett is just going to stay stagnant/get worse.

On the other hand I would rather see Brett not make jury.

Watched the premier of AU Survivor 5. This is my first time watching any AU version. The host is pretty good, he's a good Jeff substitute.

Glad Steve stayed, he has much better entertainment value going forward.

Also Russell is exactly the same in confessionals, but he seems like he might have softened up a little bit in normal camp life? Hard to tell because shockingly there wasn't an overwhelming amount of him.

I call it Season 3 or 2018, given the first two seasons are completely different. Jonathan is a pretty good host though, I agree.

You have to watch season 2 (last year), it's great.

I thought the editing was even more atrocious than usual with the blatant and completely undisguised voice clip altering...

there was one guy who was apparently talking about Heath, but when he said Heath's name, the pitch of his voice was like a while octave lower lol.

And then Russell... okay, so he's heavy and requires more effort to pull over the wall, but that hyperbolic "really struggling to pull Russell over the wall!!" was asinine, and then they cut away from the scene with an even more desperate hyperbolic attempt to make it look like Russell was holding back his tribe... and it showed Russell standing there, while the host was narrating Russell having trouble get up the wall. Wtf. That is so sloppy, editors.

Overall, I enjoyed the episode though.

No other returnees, you won't have to watch S1 or 2. They'll likely spoil the winners of the first two seasons though, as that's what 2 did for 1.

Not knowing the winner of 2 is part of what makes it great, and I would strongly recommend watching it. Don't let Russell ruin the spectacle of actually good Survivor!

AU episode 2 conclusion...

hahaha lmao. Welp, that was a neat strategy. Gotta admit, I was actually kinda rooting for Russell there even though I didn't want Jackie to go because <3 poker players. Seeing his ring strategy actually pay off would have been epic, but at the same time, seeing a poker pro get voted out on an idol bluff would have been tragic as fuck. I actually kinda wish Shane had been voted out so Russell and Jackie had to continue tolerating each other. I wanted that rivalry to continue... and I like Shane too. Her voting confessional was priceless. Russell should have targeted Lydia imo. His idol reveal and the build up to it was reminiscent of Marisa/Betsy. Her going home while Russell, Shane and Jackie all staying in (preferably with Russell keeping the idol) would have been best case scenario imo. Oh well. Disappointed but not disappointed. Better editing this time around too :). Now that big distraction hype-vacuum is gone, dynamics should only get more fun to watch.
