Never been. Couldn't tell you.
But it seems like they just replaced tsar with a commie leader and replaced that with a president dictator
I assumed the government doesn't give a fuck about the people

Anyone else notice a flood of pro-Russia propaganda the last few days? My aunt was posting some meme of how Putin shouldn't be considered a villain because he, "ran the Rothschilds out of Russia and banned GMOs" or some other thinly veiled conspiracy theory nonsense.

Normally I don't say anything, but it's getting telemarketer levels of annoying and I feel like they just exploit the fact that no one ever calls people out on spreading that shit for fear of being labelled impolite.

From what I've seen in videos on youtube and such, Russians seem no different than Americans. They have rough personalities from what I've heard. There women are beautiful of course, and they were sleazy during World Cup kissing and f**king foreign men.

Are we still 50 states or are we just a single russian state now, called "russian territory in america" or the like?

I am not sure the implications of 45's capitulation to russia on Helsinki. Do we do we get to still celebrate 4th of July?

Hm, let's see.

Russia : Tchaikovsky, Prokofiev, Shostakovich, Rachmaninoff, Vadim Repin, Tolstoy, Dostoevski, Gogol, Chekhov, Pushkin, Tarkovski, Eisenstein, Nikita Mikhalkov, etc etc etc.

The US : uhhh... Mickey Mouse ? Rocky ? The big mac ? Please help me here, I need people who will still be remembered worldwide 500 years from now.

I am going to take a wild guess that this sheds some light on the topic at hand.

This is a crazy comparison though. What about Hemingway? What about Orson Welles? What about Poe? Hitchcock? There is a bevy of Americans who have contributed to culture in incredibly significant ways.

Haha, I know right. You even left out some MAJOR ones, such as Mark Twain, Steinbeck, Faulkner, Salinger, Philip Roth (RIP, passed away recently). But still, it cannot compare to the literal steamroller that is Russian cultural patrimony. Not many countries can anyway :)
So yes, to reiterate, Russia is a damn GREAT country.

Im trying to teach myself as well, beautiful language imo. Russian culture also has a lot of respect and manners that seems to be considered "old fashioned" here in America.

Do you use Reddit or Twitter? Whenever the president does anything even remotely controversial the propaganda starts flooding in. Its worse when even his own base is questioning, i.e. the initial reaction to net neutrality before they ate up the lies about how its bad for competition or some bullshit like that.

Now, its even more noticeable because you have people calling Helinski treasonous, Trump is walking his statements back and forth, and even Republicans in Congress are denouncing what happened when theyre usually deeply disturbed at best when he does something fucked up. So yes its expected that the Russian propaganda mechanism is in overdrive right now.

Yeah, I understand why it happened, I just wanted to know if anyone else had noticed.

And honestly, it's been a steady stream political gaffes so I'm surprised it's not in overdrive 24/7.

Yeah they don't which was pretty evident during World Cup. Russian women were kissing and some of them I believe were ****ing foreign fans. And Russians dudes from the videos I've seen they seem no different than Americans. A lot of the dudes have rough personalities, and some of them have no class.

Yeah, people are people no matter where you go. Saying 'respect is part of the culture' is disingenuous and naive to begin with. Most cultures have some sort of idea of 'respect', but the problem is that how one interpret's respect is so radically different for every culture that it might as well be completely different concept. It basically just boils down to 'that country's conception of respect is most similar to our country's' when people say that.

Really, though, that's a minor difference and people are pretty much the same across the globe.
