I live in a country that actually has the kind of public healthcare system you're advocating for, and I can tell you that it's still entirely possible to end up in a situation where you cannot afford your medication. In fact, if you need medication that isn't on a specific government-approved list, you're pretty much fucked - how fucked depends on whether it's on the "allowed, but you have to pay for it yourself" list or the "not allowed" list.

It isn't as perfect as you think.

Money gives you a way to solve the problem though. some people with that disease will be cured which is better than no people with that disease being cured.

I cut my finger on a blender (it was turned off and I failed to realize how sharp it is) and it was borderline if I should or shouldn't go to the ER. Stitches and/or a splint may have helped but then I was afraid there'd be an out of network nurse or something and they'd do a bunch of scans and I'd pay four figures for an easy fix. I have health insurance and I still didn't go.

That is, even people who can't afford it can get it often.

If anyone ever legit "cures" cancer, we're all completely F'ed.

If the cure costs so much that only the rich can have it...there's going to be a class war.

If the cure costs so little that everyone can have it...the population is going to explode out of control.

I highly doubt cancer is keeping the population in check. Unless decades down the road cancer is like 1 out of 3 ratio.

I think it just depends on how you view it.

It almost seems worse to know that something out there will work, but it's out of your reach. Rather than just knowing there's nothing you can do. There is some peace in that.

I can get people thinking that way. End of the day with me a solution I can't get is better than there being no solution. I could keep working towards the solution even if I never can achieve it.
