The National Football League is feeling the impact of the "Trump Effect."

Ticket sales since he called on team owners to fire players who take a knee to protest the National Anthem have cratered.

The online ticket reseller TickPick told Secrets that sales have dropped 17.9 percent, far more than the usual Week Three fall.

We have seen a massive decrease in NFL ticket purchases this past week in comparison to years past. Week 3 seems to usually have less ticket orders than week 2, but this year ticket purchases are down more than 7 percent from this time last year," said TickPick's Jack Slingland.

"While we can't specify if this decrease is due to the president's comments, player and owner protests, play on the field, or simply the continued division of consumer's media attention, the conversation around the NFL this week has focused on the president's comments as well as the players' and owners' reaction. As viewers continue to abandon their NFL Sunday habits, both the number of ticket sales and the purchase price of tickets will drop," he told us.

People are becoming less interested in NFL, but you have to admit that your actions are the problem after a certain point.

Also, it should be noted that this past weekend several players were called for roughing the passer on 100% clean sacks. rules and penalties like that have been escalating for years and its turning some people off....also many teams are opening new stadiums causing ticket prices to go up significantly, and the Rams and Chargers played in a smaller stadium limiting the number of tickets that could be sold last season....

....but hey, lets not look at other aspects or facts. its all about the kneeling.

On top of this, people are deciding not to go to games because the experience at home is in many ways better.

The funny thing is that NFL revenue was up last year by like almost 5% IIRC.

I will agree about the game changing. When I played 20 years ago you could grab the quarterback and slam his ass to the ground. You could also hit the qb a couple seconds after he let go of the ball. Nowadways you got guys who get flagged for trying to avoid the QB but make a little bit of contact. Lets say it's third down towards the end of the game and they get some bs call, that ruins the game for me. I get the safety issue, but it sucks to see the game I grew up loving is changing to some pansy sport. Sooner or later it's going to be 2 hand touch. "We need to take an official's timeout for a replay. We're not sure if he touched him with both hands, or just one hand."

Heres one thing I never got about Deflate Gate:

Didnt both teams use the same ball? If Brady (or whoever did it) gave himself an advantage, wasnt he also giving the same advantage to the other teams quarterback?

if one QB practices with a regulation ball and the other practices with a deflated ball and and he learns to play better with the deflated ball, the QB who didn't practice with a deflated ball does not have an advantage as he's not used to playing with a deflated ball.

Each team brings 24 balls to a game. I believe they'd typically be inflated to the QB's liking within the allowed parameters, but I'm not 100% sure on that.

https://sports.yahoo.com/news/nfl--nfl-game-day-costs-for-fans.html
This was in 2012, but I cant really find an updated version. Im sure its just as bad now.

Its Fan Cost Index, published in September, summarizes this years costs, based on expenses incurred by a family of four. It consists of four average price tickets, two small beers, four small soft drinks, four hot dogs, parking, two game programs and two adult-size team caps.

What are the average costs for a family of four to see an NFL game up close and in person? Read ahead and find out.

Ticket

Average cost: $78.38

A single premium ticket to see the New York Giants in 2012 costs $ 464.75. However, Team Marketing Report bases its findings on average ticket prices, and in 2012 that runs at $78.38, or $313.53 for four.

Beer

Average cost: $7.28 Football fans are no longer limited to just Budweiser and Miller when they go to the stadium. According to Esquires NFL Stadium Food Power Rankings, many craft brews are available at NFL games, including Goose Island Honker's Ale and Red Bridge Gluten-Free beer. On average, NFL fans can expect to pay $7.28 for a small beer at the stadium. The most expensive are found at San Diegos Qualcomm Stadium and Buffalos Ralph Wilson Stadium, where the cost is $9. The study assumes two beers will be purchased, or $14.56.

Soft Drink

Average cost: $4.57

The Fan Cost Index assumes that each member of the family will have one small soft drink. With an average price of $4.57, thats $18.28 for four sodas.

Hot Dog

Average cost: $4.84

Many stadiums offer unique foods, including fish tacos, crab cakes and smoked short ribs.

Still, theres no substitute for a good old fashioned hot dog. According to Team Marketing Report, thats $4.84, or $19.36 for four.

Parking

Average cost: $27.35

Sports venues are often accessible by mass transit, but many will still drive to games. The average cost for parking is $27.35.

Program

Average cost: $4.06

Game programs are a less essential stadium purchase than food or other memorabilia. In fact, nine of the 32 NFL teams dont even sell them. The average price for those that do is $4.06, and two will be purchased for $8.12.

Cap

Average cost: $21.38

Its hard for some NFL fans to leave the game without taking some merchandise home. Team jerseys and caps are popular choices.

The report found that the average price for a cap is $21.38, and to keep the kids happy, two will be purchased for $42.76.

Fan Cost Index

Average cost: $443.93

The averages add up to $443.93 for a family of four. This is a lot of money for the average family to spend in a single afternoon, but its by no means definitive.

The Jacksonville Jaguars have the lowest Fan Cost Index at $342.70, and the highest belongs to the Dallas Cowboys, at $634.78. This is due in large part to the Cowboys $110.20 ticket price and the $75 parking fee. By comparison, the next highest parking fee is $49 at Chicagos Soldier Field.

A referee explained it as follows: teams do not have access to the gameballs until 10 minutes before kickoff. whatever happens to the balls afterward they are released to the teams are not monitored. each team gets their own set of balls.

This may have changed as a result of deflategate.

Besides the fact that this article was a year ago, attendance has been a problem for a while because it's not cost efficient to go to a game anymore.

Watching at home:
- free, with giant TV
- climate controlled
- can do stuff during commercials
- your own bathroom
- can eat/drink whatever you want
- don't have to deal with traffic in/out of the game, parking is free

Watching at stadium:
- nosebleed tickets are going to cost you $80 to start
- a lot of stadiums are exposed to the elements
- stand around during commercials
- deal with vomit/shit covered bathrooms with lines
- pay out of the ass for shitty stadium food
- Parking is like $50 give or take depending on where you are

Football is boring now and here's 3 other reasons.

1. Not enough star players. Right now it's basically Tom Brady vs What's His Name Again?

2. Rule changes. First the NFL bans team celebrations then they repeal it. Sorry, too late. The damage has already been done. They have other silly rules. The refs don't even know what the fuck to do anymore. "It wasn't a catch because he caught it with one hand, but before he went down he didn't hop on one foot and do the hokey pokey and turn himself around, so no catch."

3. Ticket prices. 4 car payments = 1 Good NFL seat ticket.
