I used to be one of those guys but yes it's very dumb. I understand wanting "bang for your buck" I guess but you're not going to remember how long you played something, you're just going to remember the experience. And 12 hours of like The Last of Us is more memorable than 60 of a ho hum JRPG.

That said I did play Persona 5 for over 80 hours and the length didn't really bother me. But that kind of thing is getting a lot rarer for me just because there's like you said so many games to play and it kinda sucks to get tied down on something for a long time unless it's really really good.

I remember when I was young, I loved RPGs because they gave the most playtime for the money. There was so much downtime after school or on summer break and it was before everyone had computers, neftlix, cellphones or other distractions besides "outside" or playing with toys or something. And when I got a game, it had to last a while before I got a new one. So RPGs were the best.

Also to piggyback on what chewy said about wanting a shorter experience, that's why I've had Fallout 4 since launch day (got it for free) but never played it. I have no motivation to start a game that large. Even though I recently played...

I've heard a lot of people say the same thing about RPGs. It makes sense, but I don't entirely get why people would continue to love them now that they aren't kids. I guess there's probably a bit of nostalgia/familiarity factor, but obviously people buy new ones too. Since I didn't grow up playing them, I don't really have an appreciation for that aspect and it's probably a big reason why I dislike them.

The reason everyone loves RPGs is they're good as hell. Breath of the wild is an RPG!!!

It looks like the Angels went with the "opener" strategy in today's game against the Rockies. I know it's caught on with more than just the Rays but I think this is the first time I've seen it involving the Rockies. Honestly, they might be smart to try it themselves given what a disaster Tyler Anderson has been lately.

The interesting thing is that they chose the guy who closed last night's game. I wonder if in modernish history that's the first time a guy pitched consecutive innings across two different games. If not, I'd assume that either it happened this season, or was on the heels of an extra innings game.

I worded that poorly, I guess it does sound like the length is the only thing to love. I just meant that I would think more people would tire of that aspect, not that it's all they have to offer.

Also another (sort of) new baseball thing the Rockies haven't done: Position players pitching. I tried to look up when they last did it and found out it was 2002, while the next closest is 2015!

What the hell. You'd think they'd do it an above average amount because they have the highest team ERA a lot of the time. That's actually crazy to me it's been that long. Maybe they always feel like they can come back when they're down 10

The Cardinals are 20-5 in August. I am attending my first game of the year on August 31. There is a 10000000% chance they will lose that game.

JRPGs are fun. Octopath Traveler has really enjoyable combat plus I don't have to buy another game for a while.

I tapped out at like 31 hours. I picked it up again for one chapter the other day when we were posting about it but I've moved on. They should do story driven dlc or a sequel where the characters talk to each other and pursue a common goal because it feels like they were so close to making a great game

Okay the Dodgers are totally going to win the NL West

It's funny that even when the Dodgers were 3 games back a few days ago, ESPN's standings gave them an 80% chance to make the playoffs and only 40% each to the D-Backs and Rockies.

Interesting you mention that since I was looking at different playoff odds earlier and it seems like ESPN's are the same as Fangraphs'. That's funny because they use B-R for WAR, and FiveThirtyEight, which is sort of affiliated with ESPN, has their own projections but they don't use them.

The very sad Mariners btw are down to under 10% on most of the ones I saw. The AL is lame

I tried many times over the years to become a Mizzou fan but it just doesn't interest me. They're like a decent program but you know they're never gonna win the SEC or anything so what's even the point.

I've been told that college football is WAY more popular than the NFL in the south. In places like Alabama that's going to be obvious because there's no NFL team, but a friend has a ton of relatives in Georgia and they all love the Bulldogs and don't give a shit about the Falcons.

This is probably true. My brother works for the news in Jacksonville and they don't even have a big college in Jacksonville but people care about the college games a lot based on the station's Facebook page. Then I unfollowed the Facebook page because they are all ignorant Trumpers down there. Lots of hateful dumb comments on that page
