Is... is this their way of forcing people to buy text books that are expensive as fuck? Because I think its bullshit. Havent been in school for a bit.

The professor must be pretty pointless if they think we NEED to combo the assignments with the purchasing of a book thats needlessly updated annually just to keep overcharging.

Like. Its public speaking. Why the hell would I need a book for this?

Keeps those pesky poor people from trying to purchase used. If you cant afford new text books every semester you better wise up and stay at McDonalds.

I was confused about it, too.

My wife signed up for a certain class. We went to the book store at the school to see if we needed a book. The professor had specifically left a comment saying the book was not recommended/required.

My wife shows up for the first day of class. Everyone has a book (we forgot about checking the Student e-mail account >_>) and it turns out she *does* need the book but the school offers a cheaper digital version of it or something.

But then you're not allowed to use tablets or laptops or anything in class so you still need to order the loose-leaf version of the book to take it to class rofl.

Shit is too complicated for its own good, what happened to just reading the book and answering questions and filling out homework assignments on paper.

I've never had a professor that wanted you to buy the book.

Bless the people who scan and upload their textbooks online for free so thousands of students don't have to pay crazy amounts of money for something they'll only use once.

I just had a conversation a few days ago with mine about it.

He said that he couldn't flatout say that the book was useless for the class but he wasn't going to require it and I could make my own decision wink wink nudge nudge

I think he's gotten in trouble for that sort of thing in the past.

This topic doesnt get it.

My classes attach an access code onto the textbooks. In this access code, are the homework assignments.

There is no way to purchase these separately it seems. So I literally have to buy the book to even do the homework. Its complete bullshit.

My wife is doing a graduate program at an accredited school and its the same thing.

She bought a used book only to find out that it doesnt come with the access code. So then she had to deal with customer service and negotiating a return so she could buy the brand new book at full price simply so she could access the online portions required for the class.

The textbooks themselves are sometimes good, but the access codes some teachers require are bullshit
