People just read the OP and believed it as it was that the American flag was replaced with some other flag. Not true, the movie distinctly shows the American flag planted on the surface of the moon. Yet everyone who replied to this topic seems to think the American flag isn't there because of this fake controversy. How gullible can you be?

Pretty gullible, I'll admit it.

Yah because that would totally be a struggle.... Wasn't there a movie about a guy trapped under a rock flailing around for a few days?

That was the entire movie though. In First Man, the actual trip of them going to the moon is just a very small part of the film. It centers around Armstrong and everything they did before the actual Apollo 11 mission.

That worked fine. If you film it competently, you could transform the scene into that of a challenge and add suspense to it, you know focusing on Neil's struggle to get the flag planted...?

Translation: My original point got proven wrong, as did my "correction", so now I'll just say that the director should flat-out make shit up in order to fit with my view of how things should have happened.

Your comparison is crap, by the way, because - unlike a guy getting fucking burred alive by rocks - a bunch of astronauts unable to get a flag to stand up for a couple minutes is an activity that has no risk or danger behind it whatsoever.

Yah there's no risk in outer space right?? You are unfathomably dense, no projectiles that could hit you, no chance of a space suit failing, or the ship malfunctioning. Not saying any of that did happen, but it could.

Here's a translation: you sound triggered, go outside or something.

So, pretty much exactly what I said - in a topic that started with you complaining about the director ignoring reality, you're asking the director to ignore reality and just start spewing complete fucking bullshit that didn't happen because it fits your narrative.

Keep digging yourself deeper, I'm sure you'll find a winning argument eventually.

People get so bent about silly things. The flag is in the movie, they didn't make a big deal of the flag planting... which wasn't all that dramatic

That's not a dramatic conflict. Man vs. Nature (and, eventually, Man vs. Himself) is a dramatic conflict so known for its drama that it's been used countless times in film and literature.

Flagpole vs. Somewhat Hard Ground isn't dramatic at all. Even if you tried to make it dramatic, it would just be two dudes fiddling with a flagpole for three minutes while dramatic music swells in the background, making the sequence comical rather than dramatic.

Because clearly Hollywood has to make historical movies exactly how long it took to do something.

I don't care about the American aspect so much, and definitely don't care about "disrespect", but I'm generally annoyed by "historical" movies that choose to change facts or omit details they don't consider politically correct (even ones that makes America, Americans, or our ancestors look pretty bad), so something like that would probably discourage me from watching the film just on the assumption that they'll probably omit or get other things wrong as well.l

So then pretty much every historical movie then eh?

Yeah, maybe they should have just had Neil leap from the entryway of the lunar lander, flagpole in hand, and dunk that shit into the lunar surface while screaming an elongated "AMERICA" over comms.

Look. in a biopic, they can either show it accurately or not at all. Since there is no good way to make that moment fit, given the tone of the movie, while still being good film-making, it's better to just leave it out and show the flagpole having already been planted at a later point.

That must be why all the sports movies ever created show 4 hour baseball and football matches.

You mean how they show all the important bits like an exciting triple play or a game winning touchdown, and ignore most of the boring bits like two dudes futzing around with a flag for three minutes?

Thanks for supporting my argument of leaving out the parts that would be boring or uninteresting in service of making a better film.
