Board 8 > Nominate The Doom Slayer (Doom 2016)

Hey everyone, nice to see ya guys. I'm here to talk about a character y'all should nominate. He's been around for a pretty long time, he's kicked a lot of asses, and these days, he's back to take hiss place as a gaming icon. I am, of course, talking about the Doomguy.

Why should we nom this guy?

Because he's never been in a contest before and he deserves to make an appearance. The Doom series is, bar none, THE most important shooters that ever existed - the Marios of blowing up guys with extreme amounts of firepower. Everyone's played the old classics and loved them, and everyone heard of the new game that came out in '16, played it, and fell in love with its breakneck speed. And now, he's got a sequel coming, so it's about time, I say.

FPS shootmans are always weak though. Why won't this guy be fodder?

A) Because his design is immediately recognizable and iconic. You don't need to have played any FPSes in the last decade to recognize the guy ripping and tearing through demons like no tomorrow.

B) Because he's oooooold. Seriously, Doom 1 is older than a whole bunch of users that visit this site. And we all know GameFAQS loves its old-ass games.

C) Because his franchise is hot hot hot right now. As mentioned above, he has a sequel coming to a game that got rave reviews and became popular purely through word of mouth (because Bethesda made the worst marketing campaign ever, nearly burying it until people said 'yo this is godlike, play this!'). The fan goodwill is there to make him respectable.

D) Because he's got a big fucking gun and a laser sword. No seriously how can you see this and not get pumped it's so metal Megadeth riffs start playing in my ears every time I look at it:



Hopefully this pitch is convincing enough. Nominate Doomguy today!

Technically yes, but AFAICT his official name as of Doom '16 is Doom Slayer. So I submitted him as such in my own nomination form, just for the sake of clarity.

Bit of Doom 2016 spoilers:

They're almost certainly the same character. It's just that he finally has an official name. The game suggests that every single Doom game except maybe Doom 3 happened at some point, Doom 64 included.
