New coworker, and I found her attractive. And I think about how she's attractive, and I find her more attractive, and think more often about how attractive she is. Aaaaaand now I've got a crush, and it's fucking awful. It's the first time in five years I've got a crush on someone, and I forgot how intrusive those thoughts are, and when I'm at work, I keep wanting to look in her direction. I'd rather be addicted to drugs than deal with this adolescent shit.

I've had a semi-awkward conversation during break with her over simple, regular "get to know" questions. And also found out she had a boyfriend when I asked someone else. So dreams are dead, and my heart's still cooking. Feels bad man.

I really wish people would stop using the 'forget about her' card.

If you have to see her often, it's pretty fucking hard to forget about her. I was in the same position with a girl at University.

Hell, even if you don't see her often, it can be pretty fucking hard to forget about her. I haven't seen this girl since 2014 and I still dream about her sometimes. I'm now forced to live the rest of my life in regret for asking her out by a fucking text message (which she read, but never replied to). That's pretty fucking difficult to forget.

Thanks, it really echoes my feelings. It took basically a few years to get liberated from my previous crushes. I still think about them on occasion, but it doesn't pain me because time has allowed me to emotionally disconnect.

What adds complication is that my work isn't fun or rewarding at all, so sadly, this was the most engaging thing to happen to me at work. Thus, it's really hard to not associate work with her.

I think about her because it brings me a certain joy (a joy that I'm seriously deprived of), even though there's an overall negative value, because there can be no fruition.

Fuck obessions. *Keeps doing it*

You have a idealized version of her in your head right now and she's not at all what you think she's like. Take it from someone who used to be a hopeless romantic. You're projecting what you want onto her because she's "close enough". Even if you did get with her, it would be unfair to her because of your pre-existing expectations of what your relationship should be like.

Work on yourself first, the interest from other girls and "dateability" will come naturally once you're in your groove and hittin your stride, loverboy. I'm in your court on this one, but you're being awfully delusional and need a wake-up call.

Yea, I know all of this, but I lack the strength of will to take the hard path out. This is you basically telling a smoker that it's not healthy to smoke, and me complaining about my health deteriorating from smoking.

I got nothing better to do at work than feed my delusions. Well, it's more like there's no outlet for joy at work, and I can't convince myself to ignore my desires for self-gratification.

Well, I don't know if this falls in the same lines as your smoker analogy, but it's clear to us that you aren't really receiving self-gratification. Let's keep using the smoking example. You know how most people get over an obsessive behavior (like smoking)? They replace it with something else that takes up just as much concentration and time. Sure, you might feel like you're going overboard doing XYZ activity every time you want to smoke, because hey, that happens A LOT during a day, but at least it isn't what you used to do, right?

I heard she was caught cheating on her partner a couple of weeks ago though.

And I know it is maybe not something you laugh about, but I thought it was hilarious she was caught cheating after I've had a crush on her(she and everyone else at the work knew about me crushing on her).

It's a long story but I've talked about it here before on numerous occasions.

But the gist of it is essentially, I started working in a new place, one woman was helping me around, got a crush on said woman, after months of psychological torment I couldn't take it anymore and had to confess it to her(huge mistake but I was young back then and it felt like a good idea in my head) and everything went downhill from there until I got fired.

Also she was like 42 and I was 21.
