If you've played Tekken, that may help a little. Combos and special moves aren't exactly necessary if you're not able to start connecting your basic moves in the first place. One day, a local EB games was doing a SC2 tournament and my cousin signed me up without me knowing. I went along with him cause I thought it'd be cool but when I got there I found out I'd be playing the first round. Matched up against a 25 or so year old man and I chose Cervantes despite not being good with him. When I say I button mashed I mean I fucking mashed buttons and somehow did some cool as shit that to this day I haven't been able to do again. I finished the match by skewering his Kilik off the side of the map with both of Cervantes' blades. Everyone cheered and the other guy got mad af and stormed out. I lost in the final match. Runner up. I got a copy of the game that I already had. 1st place was a joycon. Wasn't disappointed, but I made it farther than my cousin did and he was tight about that for the longest time. I wonder what happened to that guy to this day.
