Inferno is most likely the final boss of one of the game's story modes, but Bamco decided to make him a playable character as well. It's also noted in the trailer that Inferno can't be used in online multiplayer, so that probably means that they didn't want to balance the playable version and he's boss-level overpowered as fuck.
