Valid concerns, but these are here to take advantage of the uninitiated. If I hadn't accidentally befriended a stripper while taking an undergrad prereq class for my graduate courses, I would not have gotten into strip clubs as a 5-6 time a year relaxation night.

She told me about where to sit, what is expected of the guy, what a guy can do in certain situations, etc. So to answer your concerns:

Most clubs have higher cover charges at nights and on weekends. So on weekend nights, when most guys have the urge to go to these places, the cover charges can be ridiculous. Some places just have higher cover charges. Do some research as to when a certain club may have free admission or a cheaper cover. Usually a day time cover change is only $5 around here.

You do need to have a drink but you don't need to drink it fast or order another. Get yourself a cheap beer, usually Bud/Coors/Miller/whatever's local will be cheapest. Tip your bartender, sometimes they let you tip their cleavage and if the rule is correct, then the bartender should be the hottest gal there. Sip on your beer, let it sit. There's a reason why.

Girls are supposed to encourage you to do lapdances with them. That is their job. That is how they make money. It's ridiculous to assume you'll go into a club and NOT get bombarded by women. Especially if you dress nice or otherwise look like you have money to spend (watches, jewelry, nicer clothing). Sometimes you can use that to your advantage if you just like getting swarmed (I do, it's fun). Be resilient! They will touch your arms, your chest, and whisper in your ear things you want to hear. But if you aren't looking to go in the back, then be polite and decline. They've heard it before, so long as you aren't rude, they'll probably just wink and wave bye before moving on the next guy.

So about that beer, let's say you actually do want to get a lapdance or private dance. Maybe you aren't sure with whom or what you want yet. Let your beer be your excuse. Because when you want to get a lapdance, it doesn't matter who, but if they're persuasive enough, they will convince you. If you are still sipping your beer, just use that: "I'll think about going to the back when I finish this..." so that tells her to back off for now and maybe come back later. This will allow you to maybe see the next few girls dance to see who you'd like to take. Or just be resilient! Some guys are real dicks about this, but if you just say no and don't really engage them too much, they will move on, too.

And if you sit at the bar or closest to the stage, you are expected to tip a dollar or two as the girls walk by. This is the norm. Of course not every guy does this, but don't be surprised if you don't get any attention from the bartender.

I have only been to one in my life, it was in Europe and it was alright and I enjoyed it but I wouldn't go back (especially not with all the horror stories I've heard of pregnant / fat strippers in the US >_>).

It honestly depends on location. I live right outside of Philadelphia and Ive been to a variety of strip clubs. Theres some really sleazy strip clubs and the more upscale ones tend to have really hot dancers.

Either way, its still a ripoff IMO
