It was mentioned that FFVII will likely be stronger because anti-votes will be lessened. I'm skeptical about this idea. Why would FFVII get anti-voted in 2013, but not Zelda, when Zelda dominates a lot more? FFVII very well may have been so weak in the last contest not because of anti-votes, but because of low vote totals... those who loved Cloud/Sephiroth left the site, instead, perhaps. Oh, yeah, and of course I won't forget that Cloud in Smash 4 is a factor.

However, I still get the feeling that registered voters are going to begin anti-voting Pokemon this contest. I would be surprised to see Pokemon do as well this contest for that reason alone. And if there WERE FFVII anti-votes, then I agree there will most likely be fewer of them this time around.

It's settled. I'm going with Tifa > Mewtwo, after agonizing over this and going back and forth on it. (just watch, I'll get another perspective and switch my pick again...)

Perhaps it won't be needed until we can peg which rallies are likely to continue in round 2. On the other hand, our brackets may depend on the spillover effect. Man, trying to predict this thing is complicated...

He was in 2010, too, actually! His board vote is terrible in those two years! Not FFVII levels bad, but Link's board vote used to be great!

And Riku's been kinda fraudulent for a while. No mainline KH game in 12 years will do that though! Sora's not what he was at his peak in 2006 either.

We'll discuss it in general terms but I don't know that we'll have enough time to break it down match by match. Gets overwhelming pretty quick if you try to factor in 2nd and 3rd rounds, and then what if the links are still active and they overlap somewhat into the following day, etc.

First time listening to one of these, and I enjoyed it. Will tune in for the rest of the contest.

That said, I'm in the camp that sees Geralt being included while Spider-Man, Vader, etc. aren't as perfectly fair. Outside of Poland, I suspect that 99% of people that know who Geralt is associate him with the games first. A fair number might know he's a novel character, but for most that's going to be little more than a bit of trivia. Those who have read the books were still likely introduced to him via the games.

By contrast, characters like Vader and James Bond are overwhelmingly associated with film, the medium that they originated in, while Spider-Man and Batman are generally known to be comic characters and are associated with comics and films (and arguably even television series) before games.

I mean, when it comes to rules like this, there are usually two interpretations:

- The letter of the rule. If we go by the book, Geralt's inclusion clearly flies in face of the rules. He didn't originate from a game.

- The spirit of the rule. I understand that, unlike most characters with non-game origins, Geralt earns the lion's share of his popularity from his game series, so he's granted an exception and let in. But what about game characters that we can conceivably argue gain more of their popularity from outside their games than from within? Hell, I don't know if anyone's brought this up before, but I don't think it's crazy to claim that a character like Pikachu gets more of its popularity from a combination of the cartoon, movies, card game, toys, and apparel - than from the actual Pokemon video games. Should we ban Pikachu then?

What if, for some damn reason, Dirk the Daring was brought into the final season of Game of Thrones and became far more associated with that show than his games. Do we ban him for the same reason we allow Geralt?

I don't mind that Geralt was allowed in. I'm glad SBAllen did it, but I'm not going to give him a pass on at least a small of bit of hypocrisy, because that's what it was.
