I'm going to pick my main bracket without worrying about rallies. Then I'll use the Second Chance bracket to pick the rally character if one emerges as the clear favorite.

yoblazer is totally correct. You're better off picking Link to win if you want to win prize money. Even if a rally does win, there will only be a few people who picked it with a prize entry bracket.

I'm terrified of Monika (for many reasons) because the thing that helps rallies get off the ground is a weak character in round 1 because rallies are never ready right off the bat in round 1, and she's got one of the weakest fourpacks in the contest. Sans does, too.

Fox > Lloyd Irving 67%

Which implies Fox > Jill 51.50%.

Next you factor in who would have gained in the last eight years, then who gets the benefit of the GameFAQs Factor. Haven't looked over the Board Odds yet but this seems like a difficult upset to pull off!

I get it, but The Witcher 3 was our game of the year. It beat a variety of Japanese games from established franchises. It looked strong in the 2015 contest when it had only just come out. And Geralt is pretty intrinsically tied to that game, he is The Witcher.

The thing is, GameFAQs' love of Japan is largely derived from its love of sweeping action-adventure and Roleplaying games, which were historically more Japan-centric (especially where character-driven games are concerned). The Witcher 3 is exactly that, and I have little doubt that it's the strongest non-Nintendo game of at least the past five years, probably since at least Skyrim.

Draven was the strongest rally we've ever seen, and even he wouldn't have beaten Link in a 1v1.

The thing about the Draven rally was that thread on /r/lol was being viewed by thousands of lol players thoughout the whole 24 hours, allowing Draven to sustain his strength. That's very different to one donation message being read out by an Overwatch streamer at a specific time, regardless of how many viewers there are. It would have to be a sustained effort where the link to the poll was constantly posted in the chat (it's not enough for the streamer to just read out a message, people need something to click), and the streamer was taking an active interest themselves. I'm not saying it's impossible, I just can't see one of the top streamers caring enough about the contest to do that.

Even if Link does fall to a rally, it's another thing entirely to beat him again in the losers bracket. I'd only be concerned because the inevitable whining on the board will do nothing but buff whoever the rally character is.

In my opinion if you want to win the $1000 you should only back a rally if you don't have the time or inclination to properly analyse the whole bracket. There are a ton of debatable matches in this contest and picking Link to win doesn't mean you can't separate yourself from the pack by correctly calling other supposed 50:50 matchups and upsets.

Finally... will the spread betting contest come back? That was really fun last time.

Sticky posts don't matter nearly as much as highly upvoted posts. Stickies are usually ignored on subreddits or at least glazed over a majority of the time. Not sure if Draven had a Hot listed topic or not but yeah!

Draven was holding back. We literally saw him play the "sticky topic" card during the match with Snake so we know Draven still had options to play. Also, the closer Link got to Draven, the stronger Draven's natural rally would have gotten. We also saw this with Undertale. Time and again Undertale's rally would back off significantly after breaking a little past the 50% threshold.
